This ski selector will let you click your way through well over 200 2023 skis along with past years models, a great option is you are hitting the Fall sales and swaps. Just click on year, brand/brands and categories that pertain to you and even see which skis earned our coveted "Tester's Choice" Award. There is no question, the past few years in the ski world have been strange, but we are headed back to some semblance of normality. As media, the access to equipment to test and review has been difficult and, well, it is easy to understand. This, along with how information is sent and received, resulted in numerous magazine casualties like Powder and Ski as well as some smaller web-based sites. But we assure you SkiTalk isn’t going anywhere! We are still committed to bringing reviews of the latest gear to you because we like you, we enjoy doing it, and lastly, we don’t want to get real jobs again. To help assure that, please consider hitting the DONATE button.

Daron Rahlves talking about the new Atomic skis
Access to gear was a little better this past year which was better than it was in the previous Covid year. Along with other SkiTalk testers, we attended our usual demo days in Colorado at Loveland Resort. This was a venue departure from Copper Mountain and Winter Park in previous years. We executed a divide and conquer in the US West with teams at Snowbasin in Utah and Mammoth in California. Tricia and I also attended some manufacturer tests with Völkl in Sun Valley, Amer Group, Atomic, Armada and Salomon at Snowbasin, and Rossignol Group, Dynastar and Rossignol at Snowbird. The latter events seem to be the future in how brands are choosing to get media on skis.

Direct To Media (DTM) is now more commonly being utilized in the industry to disseminate brand information. This method of interaction isn’t completely new, but it is being utilized more now. Whereas trade shows and on-snow national demos were the method of choice in years past, more smaller, intimate demos in which there is more direct interaction from product managers and the media appears to be the trend. It is a much better way to learn about the product with minimal disruptions from outside influences.

New for this year, SkiTalk is adding video reviews to our popular interactive reviews that you have come to us for. Due to the late addition of this new feature, we were unable to add videos for every ski and therefore produced some of the videos as “collections,” which adds a different view and great perspective. Moving forward, we will be adding and updating both individual and comparison reviews. This includes our popular Cage Matches along with videos on other gear such as binding comparisons and tuning videos. So, please check out our YouTube Channel and when you are there, hit the Subscribe button to stay up to date on all new videos.

Don't forget about the YouTube Subscription Contest:
Current and new subscribers will have a chance of winning a pair of 2023 Salomon Strive bindings and a SkiTalk Swag kit. Two additional subscribers will receive a SkiTalk Swag kit. Promotion ends 9/15/22.

I started skiing in the mid-70s in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania; from then on, I found myself entrenched in the industry. I have worked in various ski shops from suburban to ski town to resort, giving me a well-rounded perspective on what skiers want from their gear. That experience was parlayed into my time as a Gear Review Editor and also consulting with manufacturers as a product tester. Along with being a Masterfit-trained bootfitter I am a fully certified self proclaimed Gear Guru. Not only do I keep up with the cutting edge of ski gear technology, but I am an avid gear collector and have an extensive array of bindings as well as many vintage skis.
