This article is in the series "SkiTalk Live with Dan Egan"
In this episode, host and extreme skiing pioneer Dan Egan is joined by
  • Pam Fletcher, US Ski Team Olympian
  • Heather Burke, ski journalist, familyskitrips.com
  • Tim Dyer, national sales manager, Liberty Skis
  • Phil Pugliese, cofounder/owner, SkiTalk.com
This episode features a clip from the video "Vermont 100." Dan introduces the panel, and there is a discussion about masks and the status of current skiing while dealing with social distancing. Pam Fletcher says World Cup events are taking place, but at empty alpine resorts for safety reasons. Phil Pugliese describes moderate Christmas crowds at Tahoe resorts, due more to mega-pass blackout dates than Covid-19 reasons. Tim Dyer, who is based in the Vail Valley, says his region is busy and folks are adapting to ski reservations. Heather Burke speaks of great pent-up demand for skiing in New England.

Phil announces the winner of SkiTalk.com's "Pay It Forward" contest for a pair of Salomon QST 92 skis: it's member Ron Wolfe! Heather imparts her wisdom for smart traveling this winter and suggests local or familiar slopes. Tim gives a rundown of Liberty's origins in Colorado. The relatively young (2003) company features innovative technology and uses bamboo in all its skis. Phil and Tim are excited to announce that a pair of Liberty V82 skis will be the prize in the next contest giveaway on SkiTalk.com. Pam is stoked for World Cup ski racing and discusses up-and-coming men and women on the US ski team.

Dan initiates a great closing discussion with the panel covering the new normal, après-ski tailgating, Olympic memories, and backcountry safety. This episode closes with a clip from "Vermont 100," a video celebrating the ski culture at such places as Stowe, Jay Peak, Mad River Glen, and Smugglers' Notch.

About author
Philpug
I started skiing in the mid-70s in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania; from then on, I found myself entrenched in the industry. I have worked in various ski shops from suburban to ski town to resort, giving me a well-rounded perspective on what skiers want from their gear. That experience was parlayed into my time as a Gear Review Editor and also consulting with manufacturers as a product tester. Along with being a Masterfit-trained bootfitter I am a fully certified self proclaimed Gear Guru. Not only do I keep up with the cutting edge of ski gear technology, but I am an avid gear collector and have an extensive array of bindings as well as many vintage skis.
