In this episode, host and extreme skiing pioneer Dan Egan is joined by
  • Peggy Shinn, author and ski journalist
  • Phil Bayly, novelist and skier
  • Asa McKee, former pro skier and cofounder/CEO of Khala & Co.
  • Phil Pugliese, cofounder/owner, SkiTalk.com
This episode features three video clips and includes an eclectic panel of guests. Peggy Shinn has covered five Olympics and is the author of World Class: The Making of the US Women's Cross-Country Team. Novelist Phil Bayly has written two murder mysteries set in ski locales. Asa McKee describes his company's environmentally friendly reusable food wraps, which are made from cloth and wax and inspired by his hope for more pristine ski slopes. Phil Pugliese comments on the latest trends in US skiing.

Peggy's book on the US cross country ski team was prophetically released in February 2018 just two weeks before Kikkan Randall and Jessie Diggins won the US’s first Olympic gold medal in cross-country skiing (women's team sprint). Peggy discusses the rise of a remarkably supportive group of teammates, illustrated by two videos covering the women's unprecedented gold medal cross-country performance. Phil Bayly describes his background and the painstaking research process behind his two murder mystery books with ski themes: Murder on Skis and Loving Lucy. Asa, a former X-Games athlete, explains his mission to slow the trashing of ski country through his award-winning, reusable food wrap products offered at the company website. Asa kindly provides a 20% discount code for SkiTalkers at the 45-min mark of this episode.

Phil Pugliese announces the latest SkiTalk.com contest. He is giving away three pairs of Look Pivot 15 ski bindings. The panel closes this episode with more stories and a video clip of one of Mikaela Shiffrin's greatest World Cup victories.

About author
Philpug
I started skiing in the mid-70s in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania; from then on, I found myself entrenched in the industry. I have worked in various ski shops from suburban to ski town to resort, giving me a well-rounded perspective on what skiers want from their gear. That experience was parlayed into my time as a Gear Review Editor and also consulting with manufacturers as a product tester. Along with being a Masterfit-trained bootfitter I am a fully certified self proclaimed Gear Guru. Not only do I keep up with the cutting edge of ski gear technology, but I am an avid gear collector and have an extensive array of bindings as well as many vintage skis.
