Looking at the forecast for Thursday through Sunday isn't helping my mood. Seems like rain is forecast all over the place Thursday and Friday. Any guesses on what the snow will be like on Saturday?
Probably solid? Looks like it will get cold.
If one can, I would try to make Wed or Thurs. the spring skiing since Sunday has been stunning. (Maybe Sat too but I forget)
I forgot my mask, it’s so warm I didn’t even notice till the lift. So I had to get a handout. My Daron Rahlves Flylow wind resistant mid layer is perfect for Spring warmth. Plus surely one skis better in Daron’s jacket. Obtained at 45% off on Spring Sale. Get thee skiing so you can save!
Just another fab day, had to play hookey. Fair number of cars again, another race too. Trails not very crowded at all. Post 2 pm it’s freakin’ empty. Total ghost town. In the store later. I hear”...after one pm it was just too slushy.“
No prob in many areas doing 40-45mph across the whole trail. You could straightline many areas if you wanted. No one tvere, no one coming. End of day I came across a patroller standing in the trail above my traverse. Doing sweeps? I ask. “I think you’re the only one left in this area.”
There are hidden hazards in some spots though so things need to be scoped first.
Post lunch I took these out for equal opportunity time. They were fun. For an hour.
After that, the addiction calls-
Just hard to pass up the sensations of slicing through and making fast turns. The other skis fo fine, there’s the flapping tips, and the constant nattering about the lumpy snow. If i was obsessed with slarving at speed it might hold more interest, or doing woods. But for open trail carving it is much more fun on the other.
Whereas, the above blue tipped units when encountering those snow lumps just hit<ignore>, <ignore>, <ignore>... Too much fun.
However, I would not recommend it as “my first spring slalom ski”. The Blizzards would fit that bill. Those you can ski practically falling asleep, putting on your gloves, pole straps, making a call. With these this morning I was starting down a pitch still putting straps on, I turn my feet a little. The Blizzies would’ve just started a turn smoothly. These I practically high sided.
If you’re going at a good clip and want to quickly shorten the radius, it’s best to phone down to the engine room for rudder input. Sudden changes of the wrong nature could get problematic. Scotty answers, “More power??” No, Scotty I’m making a turn! “Turn? I don’t do turns! Wrong department! But here’s some power for your turn!”
Speaking of power, heel pressure coming out of the turn really activates mid to tail power. There’s a lot there. Still getting used to them. Too bad next time I’m out spring snow will be gone. Been a fantastic few days.
