Yes, Liberty is the overnight success that started well over a decade ago but really caught our attention last season with the oh-sooo-good V-Series collection, with its Vertical Metal Technology construction and unique low-rise tip with a good amount of flare (… and more than just 15 pieces of "flare," because that would be just the minimum and these skis are more than just minimum). Salomon took a slightly different direction with the redesigned QSTs by replacing the Koroyd in the extremities with cork; that subtle change made all the difference in the world, turning an also-ran ski into one that should be strongly considered.

The Liberty V92 returns for 2020 with a slightly modified construction, going from two to three vertical metal bands. No, this does not make the ski feel 50% different or more powerful than last season, but it does give it a bit more connection to the snow, which makes a ski with this shape a lot more fun. Out of these two, the V92 feels more like a wide carver, a rare sensation in a ski of this waist width where the trend is to feel more like a narrow off-piste ski.

As I said above, Salomon added cork and transformed the QST from being just the minimum to a much better ski -- with flair. Where the outgoing model had a lighter tip and tail and basically put a governor on its performance, the new one is much more stable at speed, on par with the more aggressive skis in the class.
  • Why choose the V92? It is a ski for the conditions you usually get versus the conditions you hope to get -- but if that storm rolls in unexpectedly and drops a few inches as the day goes on, you don’t need to go back to the car and switch out.
  • Why choose the QST 92? You hang out in the trees, and while groomers and high-speed GS turns aren't your main jam, you still want ski that can handle speed when asked of it.

Where does Evovl90 sit among these two? To the right of V92/QST for off-piste? Between the two on groomers?
