Update from Sierra:

"We have substantial work ahead of us before we are able to announce our opening day for this season, and it is unlikely that we will open in 2021 — so we have set our sights on resuming operations in early 2022. With a delayed start to the season, the recent snow is a strong reminder of what we are working toward and we will not stop until we are all making laps on Grandview." :(

Bring up the Mammoth crew to teach them how to harvest, groom, and make snow to stay open !
Give the PT folks a break, Squaw never opened that early probably in the last decade. It was always a week before Thanksgiving, never in October. Mammoth has a higher base, which means that October nights are much colder.

Yup. The mammoth crew would need to bring a couple of thousand feet of elevation as well….

Tomorrow Saturday, 11/6/21, expect to be up in SF by mid day. Fit black fleece jacket, Levi 511s blue jeans, probably green bb cap. At some point about mid afternoon expect to reach and go into the below Pier 35 show. Have been to several of these events in the past. Not looking to buy anything but rather enjoy a bit of looking at new gear, whatever, and especially people watching.

Maybe twice a month, I drive the 55 miles up to The City for fun urban street walk exercising and usually walk several miles along hilly touristy North Shore areas. For those interested will note there is rare in that SF zone parking for free at Marina Green along Marina Blvd. This is just west of Fort Mason. Because so many people are walking about in an open unblocked zone, it is also among the safest locations to park. Weather forecast tomorrow is cloudy, minor breeze, low 60F temp, thus good for exercising.

CDEC Caples Lake 10pm as first snow has begun. Temperature dropped rapidly between 5:30pm at 40F and 8pm dropping to 31F freezing as front neared and 28F at 9pm so quality snow early.

By looking at resort webcams it is obvious the "weak AR" storm was more of a dud than resorts are showing in their snow reports. Approaching never looked like any kind of AR on the satellite. Radar looked promising reaching the coast but splintered moving inland. Here in the Santa Clara Valley piddly, less than 1/10 inch rain. Next event is another week plus out.

News article update on Sierra-At-Tahoe ;

.... and snow making seems to have dropped out of the equation with warm night time temps. Things can certainly change in a heart beat, but I'd be a little nervous if I had a T-day ski trip planned.

Feels like the October 29th weekend faux openings took all the built up hype/stoke pressure for the season start and blew it.
Now there's nothing left for the real openings end of this month.
:roflmao:

Or we got 2 seasons out of one this time are are between the dual-seasons right now :D
:snowball:

I was planning on skiing this weekend with kids but it doesn't look there are will be any Tahoe options with either our Ikon or Epic passes. I don't want to make the long drive to Mammoth.

I do think Boreal will be spinning, though.

Eh, Boreal isn't saying anything on the Web site. Looks mighty thin on the Webcam. It doesn't look like nights will be cold enough for snowmaking until Friday night, and days will be on the warm side. Thanksgiving weekend openings? Fingers crossed.
