Philpug: It is very risky to completely redesign one of the best skis ever brought to market. The MX88 is a ski that not too long ago I billed as a "Once in a Decade" ski. It is timeless. There had been slight evolutionary changes over its lifespan, even becoming 89 mm underfoot, but 2021 is the first time we can say that it is entirely new.
High-level performance was never an issue with the MX skis, and this is why many of the best skiers gravitated to the MX88. With this new design, Kästle admits it was willing to give up about 5% of top-end performance to make things about 15% more accessible at the lower end, thus making the ski much more versatile. Where the old MX88 (and 89) needed speed and gravity to get going, the newest version is there for you at the first turn. Where the old MX89 had a turn radius of 20 m in the reference 180 cm, the new version is in the upper 18m range -- and it feels it. There is a new ease that all of the MXs possess.
Drahtguy Kevin: Superb tip. Superb tail. Superb on-snow feel. Superbly Kästle. The firm tip guides this ski into the turn without thought while the balanced flex and energetic tail complete an otherworldly experience. Groomers, crud, and bumps are this ski’s natural habitat.

Insider tip: Yes, Kästle moved production of the MX collection to its own facility, and the finish quality shows. It is above and beyond all previous productions.

Insider tip: No need to go long with this guy.

- Who is it for?
- Most any skier with solid skills can now appreciate the Kästle feel. Those wanting “next level” performance in a premium package will find fun all over the mountain.
- Who is it not for?
- Intermediates may not get the most of this powerful ride. 11/10th skiers have other options here.
