Aside from weight, reliability (real or perceived), and coolness factor, is there any noticable difference between Pivot plastic (12, 14) and metal (15, 18) toes? How about quality of release, perhaps due to retractable wings vs solid rotating toe piece?

Also, any comments on multi-directional or vertical release? I've heard claims that the metal toes don't have vertical release, yet some indicate they do. A cutout on the 15/18 shows a wedge milled off the vertical shaft, suggesting the toe piece can rotate forward. I've tried dialling down my 12s to test a vertical toe release -- it takes a lot of force even at DIN 4.

As far as not releasing upwards at the toe... I am very grateful to have a memorable moment when older Tyrolia (490) binding held me in instead of providing an upwards release during a recovery move at high speed.

Is the mounting jig the same between the 12/14 and the 15/18? Wondering as my local shop didn't order the 15s.

Gold Pivot 15s finally arrived at the Bavarian shop I ordered 2021 Brahmas from on Friday, mounted yesterday and shipped out today.

On a somewhat related note, I came across another (online) shop that states for safe passage in transit, they do not mount (in this case system) bindings at the warehouse, but ship separately!(???) Adding an extra expense and logistics challenge for customers on the back end, hmph!

Why? There is no cost in performance, it is not a moving or mechanical AFD. If you are that concerned on not being GW complaint, the toe is backwards compatible with the older DIN AFD's.
Are the GW AFD's sold separately? Like to replace AFD on my older Pivot to match my new 15 GW.

@Philpug is there any justification for this, or are they just saving on labor cost and passing that on to customer?

Thx. phil. Going to look for a place to order/buy. Any idea pricewise and do you stock them? Shipping to Europe could be an option for a small package I guess.

Should be in the $25-30 (US) range I think.

Note: you will also need longer screws (not included). The new plates are 7mm thinker (but the AFD is only 2mm higher).

thx. again. I see that the mounting distance is even shorter, nice. Regarding screws: I'm thinking to use quiverkillers so I'll be needing other srews anyway.
