I got me one of those. We learned why there is tape on the fairing: the fabric would bulge from the airflow without the tape to help it keep its shape.

We met Ross Anderson at Sun Valley last year. His boots were modified with some kind of plastic.
Its pretty fascinating, what it takes to set/break these records.

@Andy Mink helped him get suited up. @Dave Petersen talked to him a fair bit.
Here is his wiki page

Learned about Ross Anderson after sitting next to his ski at Monte Carlo steak house in ABQ a month or so ago. He’s apparently a regular there. (And for good reason, great food.)

I've been slackin'. No report since Tuesday!

Wednesday was another nice day; there have been a few lately. Yay!

IMG_20230426_072119857.jpg A few new inches overnight.

IMG_20230426_110855364.jpg @Snowfan laying it down on Peak 6.

IMG_20230426_110917231.jpg Nice and smooth underneath.

IMG_20230426_111543036.jpg The refrigerator view.

IMG_20230426_111730306.jpg Icecles.
Some icicles.

We started (Strava) after a couple of lovely powder covered groomer laps when we were on Peak 6. Some fresh snow groomers followed by a run down Wonderland. This was followed by a bunch of runs on Peak 7.

strava2184409078941898463.jpg I haven't free skied Copper in a while so when my friend said come on out Thursday, I did.

Some classic gear (both his boots and the Dynastars in the rack).

Now I know the solution to the maze. And note how they groomed out the tube park. Enough debris to discourage poaching. No photos, but the half pipe had a significantly modified exit since the incident there a couple weeks ago.

strava4633833474618300270.jpg Groomer zooming with some racing buddies was fun.

Friday was another powder day with a report of 7". It skied like that in places and not in others. There was some wind up top to move the snow around.

IMG_20230428_100133924.jpg A sort-of-mandatory run in Horseshoe revealed that while the coverage was nice, it wasn't enough to hide the underlayer.

Less steep terrain skied nicely.

Nearing the end of my day (client calls cut the day short). Photo courtesy of @Snowfan.

One run off the top, nice but not the best. The best was a bit lower down with less wind affect.

It was a pretty nice weekend. A bit on the warm side. You had to really enjoy spring skiing to enjoy the weekend. Boiler plate to start the day and pond skimming in places to end the day. While there is 1 more week to go, much of the mountain is now closed.

One last winter look over to Vail off of Sierra. You needed a mouth guard to ski the stuff skiers left early in the a.m.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but did you not notice the three-story new building under construction next to it?

Be careful out there. Dangerous time of the year. My brother is skinning Bald today, west side. This was apparently on the east side on a slope roughly as steep as Horseshoe Bowl.

I enjoyed a couple of splendid days at Loveland. Sunday I hooked up with a bunch of Rocky Mountain Masters. There were a bunch of us at one point but we skied in a few smaller groups most of the morning. Early heavy potatoes under lift 4, nice groomers on lift 8 as well as some soft natural snow, sweet groomers on lift 6.

IMG_20230430_095559811.jpg An early run on Ptarmigan revealed the beginning of a banked SL on Fire Bowl.

IMG_20230430_130648918.jpg Heading up lift 9. A run down Headwall was nice until the lower section where it was just too heavy.

The resolution doesn't allow you to see the tracks that well, but some of the upper terrain was virtually unskied and quite pleasant. @Snowfan and I enjoyed some of the easier ridge lines as well as the Primer Bowl.

The 'ID' shot I sent to @SkiNurse so she'd know who to look for: yours truly and @Snowfan.

It was mostly a repeat of the day before as far as terrain and snow conditions went with the Zip Basin Street really delivering the goods today. Like the day before, I started on SLs and upgraded to some 88s a bit before noon. It was great to see @SkiNurse, Don, Betsey, Robin and a bunch of others today. And to top it all off, I ran into a Jr and Sr high school friend and her husband.

Yesterday and today were pretty much bell to bell. I've been officially on a stay-cation for the past couple of weeks with a lull in work, @Snowfan being in town and the conditions hitting a lot of different notes but generally decent and fun with both multiple powder days and fantastic spring conditions.

Totally last minute, anyone skiing WP/MJ today? If so, let’s get together for some turns.
