@4ster, nice turns and waterfalls, what time did you start this morning?

Started on Incline Peak shortly before 10 am yesterday. A short section was a steeper climb than what I’ve done this year, had to stop multiple times to catch my breath. And took several knees…

Also similar 1,500 ft vert (starting from 8,400) without bushwhacking to a grand view. Tons of fun to ski down Incline East Bowl (Left) IMG_3468.jpeg .

So .... what's your new rig (30 years old is kind of scary)?
Well the boots were close to 30 years although I had used many different liners. I have bought tried & sold 3 other boots over the years but none of them worked for me. The new boots are some Lange XT’s & the bindings are Dynafit with a Fischer label I bought them both post pandemic for a potential powder kit in case we didn’t have lifts in 2022. My first time with tech bindings I had been on Fritschis & telemark before that.

I left my car around 8 AM and was probably skiing by 1030.

Got out this morning for a solo tour on Mt. Tallac. I have mostly been doing lift served this year & taking advantage of the abundant snowfall so touring has been on the back burner. Today was really just a test for some new bindings & boots as I decided to retire my 30yo stuff before the plastic decided to disintegrate at an inopportune time.

After 45 minutes of bushwhacking l got to my happy place. I’ve been coming here since my teens & call this zone “Private Austria”. Tons of avalanche debris, broken branches & rushing creeks everywhere …

I probably only skinned for about 1500’ but everything worked great & the views were an added bonus

Seems that the suncupped, dirty snow has already transformed into a summer glacier like pack. Totally supportable even with temperatures approaching 60°. Not sticky but not fast either just kinda meh :) . Amazing how much snow is still around at the lower elevations but too bad that it’s all kind of a mess.

You saying that really sketchy entrance on skiers right is gone??

Also, lakeview still looks decent, maybe I'll hike to it this week :D
Yeah, pretty sure it’s burnt out. I didn’t go but Genitian Gulley & Promised Land are still a go.
I did ski Beaver Bowl from the Wolverine traverse… it wasn’t anything special, lots of suncups & debris…

At least I think this is Beaver Bowl

You just need a few dedicated folks to smash those sun cups!

We gave up on Scotts chute last week. The bottom third is just meh now but the middle part skiers right was still pretty good. Have been enjoying gentian and promised land. Made it to lower 40 on sunday and conditions were swell!

Will likely start making our way to mammoth next week

@4ster, when are you and @Rainbow Jenny coming down to the real King of Spring? Pins!!! My host here in Mammoth went to both Dead &Co Forum shows.
Hmm Monitor Pass is open which makes my drive more interesting, maybe after Memorial Day if the threat of thunderstorms subsides  .

How about the hight traverse on that side towards Estelle ... Was it open? Do you remember?
Yes AFAIK the ridge hike was open but lots of dirt crossings according to someone I rode the chair with.

I couldn’t face the road construction zones again today so I went the other direction with my touring equipment.
After wandering around in the woods for a bit, I gave up on my first objective.

I returned to the car and headed further up Carson Pass to a popular spot but one I had never skied. Hiked up the gully for about an hour to where I discovered a couple of Gaz-Ex cannons.

The ski down was relatively smooth and clean compared to everything else I have encountered lately.

A sunny Alpine Meadows kicked off the California section of our spring corn tour. Old friend who is now working as host here acted as our guide. Skied bell to bell with lots soft snow to spread around. Steep wiggle line was above my pay grade. Rain storms kicked on after the lifts had closed. Planning on PT for the next couple of days.
