& back up achilles last stand to star lake again today…

even though it is a big climb for me, this has become my favorite ride this year. I think mostly because of the super long, challenging downhill all the way back.
Quiet, gorgeous day up there today & the little brookies were jumping like they wanted out…

Some sections of the trail are still a little wet ;)

Today I rode alone and did a different route. I was surprised to get some PRs as I didn't feel I was riding strong. I guess I was riding well and 'taking it easy' sometimes results in better performance.

Trail of Tears is a 'ditch' trail. They'd dig ditches to channel water for mining.

@Philpug had an 11:30 tee time yesterday and I had an 11:00 dentist appointment.
Since we loaned our VW to a friend, I rode my mtb to the dentist.
Only took me about 15 minutes one way, and made me wonder why I don't take the bike for stuff like this more often.

Here's my exciting picture.

On my way home, I stopped by @Andy Mink's house to check on his dogs.
Ohhhh Pepper!

When I got back home Gypsy was kinda going nuts so I took her for a quick one mile spin on the trail near our house.
The violet hammer was shifting just fine, and all of a sudden it wasn't so I figured I'd have to give it some attention when I got back to the house.
As soon as I got off the bike, I found the issue. :)

:roflmao: I'm still wearing Gorham Bike & Ski jerseys that I got back in the mid '90s.

:geek: A selfie without mirror! And I'm not usually a gaper, but I had just sawed two trees and was a bit out of breath.

I went for a nice long one today and covered new terrain in the opposite direction as well as a totally new-to-me trail. Hippo was phenomenal.

The first paintbrush I've seen this season.

Looking up the new extension to Chantilly.

My first Columbine of the season.

This sign was in the area that received national attention recently for a woman being trampled by a moose. She self extracted and survived without serious injury.

Looking around from a switchback over Tiger Run RV Park and the Ten Mile Range.

The Hippo trail is my new favorite trail. Too bad it's a drive or a 7 or 8 mile ride just to access. Really nice single track with great flow.

Slaying little trees (3" and 4") with my folding 6" saw.

This one got away as I did't have my larger folding buck saw.

A good workout. I could have gotten in some more trail time but had a time limit so rode pavement in one section and also took a shorter, not so fun dirt road with water bars at another point.

Most aren't familier with the terrain but we were out walking future trails. the new trail will be about 3 miles and maybe 1500' elevation drop. it will start at the top of the Mahogany Forest trail for those interested. It will not be complete for a year or two due to studies and approvals.

One of the things the trail designer discussed is how trail design needs to be forward compatible with technology and adaptability. In 2-5 years the amount of ebikes will be 3-5 times what they are now. Also we are lookign to make the trails more accessable to trikes, we have a large community of adaptive cyclists in the area and they can provide additional funding for building trails.

Man. What's the geometry on that ride. It looks soooo much more slack than anything I've seen, besides choppers. ;-)
It is a Trek Rail 9.8. It feels very similar to my RipMo & really surprised me on the downhills! One of my biggest concerns was how the bike would fit & feel as I never had a chance to test ride. I felt confident on it right away & I really put it through the paces even hitting some tabletop jumps. Balancing the extra weight in the air will take a little getting used to but for my level (which is nowhere near what my bikes are capable of) it handles like a dream.

Here is a comparison. All these #’s are mostly Greek to me & even though the RipMo measures a shorter reach it feels the opposite

@AKMINK has the Rail 5 in a size small, which is definitely more compact than my Trek e-Caliber
