I'm confused. If they put on faster rolling tires, presumably they were LESS grippy, unless the compound was much sticker and they went to low pressure tubeless into the bargain. But you don't mention any of that.
sorry, i shiuld have incldued more info.

the tires they put in were less grippy. These less grippy, lighter weight tires, which have lower rolling resistance (in the lab and in the flat section), actully took more power (measured on the bike) to climb up the steep, loose, rocky climbing section of the test loop.

New mtb this spring. Lead to some decent late spring rides, but summer was a bust for me. Got out for about one ride a week. Trying to make up for that now with a work/fun trip… @Tom K. This is that trail above trout lake I was asking ya about. Well maintained, but definitely a horse first kinda trail. But perfect for me. Quiet, cool and clean air.

Today was the day of my (sometimes) annual ride around Guyot in Summit and Park Counties.

The first pass was Georgia Pass. About 2,200 of vertical starting with cool temps and eventually the sun coming out.

They didn't catch us, so we made it back to burgers, dogs and beers.

Every other day rain has turned the trails to hero dirt lately around here!
Yesterday was great with @AmyPJ, @utskier & our friend Blake at North Fork Park. We even rode a new branch of trail none of had been on previously.

I also rode it a few days earlier when it was just as sweet. I’ve been on my RipMo while the Rail was getting its 3 month checkup

Good question!
For sure it is different & it took a few minutes to adjust both mentally & physically. Obviously it takes longer to get up the hill & it was a bit boring on the climbs. I actually liked the spots where I really had to grunt to get up a tough spot but I was feeling good yesterday & after not riding the 2 previous days I was well rested. I also didn’t feel I had lost any of my fitness, in fact I ended up going for another climb after the rest of the group left. By the end of the day I was really not missing the e bike but I am ready to get back on it soon.

‘‘Twas fun but poor utskier was feeling skunky and turns out he has the dreaded Rona! Hindsight tells me I had it first but thought it was allergies. I seem to be fighting it off but it’s hitting him a bit hard! He let 4ster know last night.

I want to find an easier way to ride that new Long Loop trail. The old horse trails are just so damn steep. Or maybe an out and back is the way to go.

Fall riding is the best, with the best yet to come!

Oh, and I did max out the 120 travel on my fork yesterday for the first time and left the shock open the whole time. I moved my seat higher and found the sweet spot. This bike is definitely a more efficient climber and is a little whip on the descents!

@AmyPJ, how’d you convince @utskier to start riding a tandem? I’ve been trying to convince my husband for years, and he won’t go for it… :roflmao:

It's a secret!
Funny story early on when we were dating he grabbed a tandem from the shop he works at and we went for about an 8 mile ride. We went down a few steep hills and I hated it! Oh, and as we were leaving yesterday someone pulled up with a tandem that had a huge downhill fork on it. We should have asked questions!

I don't think I could ride tandem. Of course that is spoken by a never-ever.

We got first snow in mountains and more rain then before in whole year together down here over last 3 days, so I was actually really surprised to see some of my favorite trails to be almost completely dry after all this rain. But it's getting a bit cold for my taste. Well honestly, I don't feel like skiing just yet, so I hope we get a bit higher temperatures back in next few weeks again, as riding down all wet from sweat after hour of hard climbing at +13c is not all that much of fun :)

20220919_171953.jpg

One of best views in fields south of my home town, with Slovenia capital Ljubljana barely seen over horizon :)

20220919_173430.jpg

The other valley... now easy way around to avoid first 45min of hard climb and then long downhill in humid shadow :)

20220919_185211.jpg

And finally, well deserved coffee (yeah I'm "slightly" addicted to good coffee :) )

My buddy and I've wanted to get out but it's been raining on and off for the last few days. I really don't relish the idea of getting caught in a downpour or lightning storm on the mountain. That, and riding the trails when wet is poor form here with the damage done. Maybe Friday.
