The deluge Monday has passed putting the mountain back into full recover mode. Snow makers were out in full force repainting the mountain in white. Skiing surface consisted of sugary death cookies mixed in with sheets of boilerplate being covered by moist sticky manmade. Watched an out of control skier go heads over heels skiing right into a washout. Helped him get back up and I advised him to slow down under these tough conditions. He took off straight down the hill double ejecting with a full force body slam when he hit the next patch of wet snow. We made few laps before pulling the plug for the day. Personally I am a fan of a wet snow gun surface. Love to carve on the new smooth surface that the guns produce.

Quite the scary Parlor trick.

I'll be making the 10 hr drive from Central Virginia for a few days of skiing the first week of January. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery from Monday's weather and maybe for additional open terrain.

That's almost 2 weeks away and in New England weather that's a lifetime. Things can turn on a dime. Good or bad. I've learned to just go and deal with the hand you are dealt.

I haven't done a ton of skiing in Vermont but I certainly learned that lesson 12 or so years ago on a trip to Smuggs, Drove up thru a pouring rainstorm, barely anything open the first day of the trip. Then it snowed a bunch overnight and they shot up from 20 to 60 open trails.

Regardless I'll be road tripping with my son back from his first semester at college, and we'll ski whatever is available. It's all good.

Thinking of day tripping tomorrow with a carload of friends to Kton. Looking at today's website report they seem to have things covered with snow fairly well and things are operating pretty well. Would appreciate any info that could be passed along. I assume the main lodge area is the place to start from? Thanks in advance.

Pretty busy today for midweek but not nearly the weekend zoo. They have recovered nicely from the wet weather Monday. I was also not a fan of the new K1 lodge but it has grown on me. Currently sitting in front of the main fireplace and there is tons of open seating.

Of the currently open trails, what are some of the favorites you all have? Superstar of course - what else?

Kton skied reasonably well yesterday. Pretty busy for a Friday, must be a Xmas thing. Great weather and temp, no wind. Some trails got scraped off in the afternoon, but most held up will. Snow surface was quite variable with sugar Snow on top. Some bases were edgable and some boiler plate. Superstar was pretty good in general. Some pics

Looked for @guyinshorts but couldn't find him. It was cold and he must have had his pants on :thumb:

This weekend at Killington was quite nice - While not bountiful terrain, what was open was in good condition and there were few people on the mountain. Saturday was ski onto the lift all day and Sunday morning brought temperatures in the 30’s and nicely softening snow throughout the day.

Bubble loaded on time with the mountain claiming 10 inches of snow. Ski bum race was cancelled so we warmed up an ungroomed Highline. Hit the North Ridge Quad at 9:30 just as they started loading. First tracks on Upper Ridge Run that held the driest powder on the mountain. Lapped the North ridge for awhile. LEF had full on super manky mix. Loaded the K1 box for a final lap on Old Superstar as we had skied our fill of wet powder. Place was as empty as it gets mid winter.

I was hoping we would run into you guys later in the day Saturday after we saw you getting off the gondola in the morning. Maybe next time.

We got a late start helping some neighbors get their car jumped and out of a snow bank. Rode the K1 gondola up and skied down to Bear Lodge. A lot of effort with the full on wet concrete at lower elevations! We then hit an ungroomed Bittersweet to K1 to take a break. After we lapped the gondola and North Ridge chair including that manky LEF, which was quite fun. I guess we should have taken a chance on Ridge Run! The higher elevation did have better snow.

Cooler temps and some snow forecast for the next few days on the K app, so the weekend looks prime for you weekend warriors out there. A bunch of new terrain is coming on line very soon, so come and get it!

With 2" of fresh snow on top of the recovering mountain and the sun shining, today was pretty sweet. Run of the day was an ungroomed upper Skyeburst under the guns. Lots of soft choppy bumpy snow so we hit it twice. Then Old Superstar was pretty nice as well with softish bumps. Since Great Eastern was finally open, we did our first peak-to-creek run of the year, but not a true downhill since the groom and the crowds prevented a fast cruise. The big storm comes tonight but the wind may dampen enthusiasm despite the amount of snow predicted.

The website has not updated snow totals yet, but the first few runs of the day were heavenly. We started on Panic Button/Needle's Eye for a few laps then moved to run-of-the-day Vertigo accessed from the bottom of Panic Button (the headwall still looks a little sketchy). Surprisingly, we had untracked through the shrubbery still poking out of the snow, but by the time we returned others had followed our path. Still, there were good patches of untracked for our second run. On the rest of the mountain, with the hardpack under the fresh snow, it paid to ski from patch to patch to make soft turns. As things got skied off, we decided to mosey down Solitude for almost non-stop fresh powder. Sure, it's not steep, but just enough to keep me moving through untracked for almost the whole looong run.
