Don't get too excited. Where the reports from the SIA/Outdoor Retailer show floor used to be very gear centric, those pics are in the 2023 Sneak Peek thread. This year OR is a very different show, much better than the Summer show of the same name but no where near the depth of exhibitors of years prior to Covid, many of the big players have pulled out and have a different direction in how to not only interact with their dealers but also us, the media. Hard good displays are very few and far between with less than a handful coming to this years show.

The Outdoor Retailer show does publish a daily magazine and I had an article in it on page 44 of the Daily Magazine Day 1 issue HERE.

Here are some pics from todays walking of the show....

Suprisingly, the high light of the show was magnetic koozie.

Phil - curious... you identified the show as "SIA/Outdoor Retailer". How is ownership branding it? Been there, done that, with both shows, for far too many decades. Thanks.

I was referring to the reports from over the years. SIA has the interest of the retailer as the focus, as the ownership of the show changed. Now it is not just snow sports centric but much more outdoor oriented.

So most of the hardgoods have bailed to an invite/appointment only get together in SLC? What about demos- still running? What incentive is there for retailers to send their staff/buyers to the new OR?

Hardgoods manufacturers are taking a new approach in working with dealers and media differently. We learned last year that there were many other avenues to get the information to the dealers and us, that was through technology ie Zoom type interaction and also bringing them/us directly to the the showrooms. Both of these options are proving to be more effective along with being less costly than space on the trade show floor.

Demos are back both on regional levels along with some brands piggy backing them on dealer/media meetings.

The quandery with trade shows is that they are still important, but they are changing for sure. This is still a people business and there is still a good amount of business that is done face to face in the aisle and at dinners, this will go away if the trade shows go away. Shows like OR are still important for smaller companies to get their word out to the dealers and us. Now we jsut need to figure a way to make it affordable and advantageous for everyone.

Page 44 again...

I like the RAB Mythic Ultra ($475) Pertex Quantum fabric, body mapped Box-Baffle core, 900 Down Hoody (18.9oz size M), page 30 and 60.

Polartec soft-shell fabric, hand made in New Hampshire faceGlove looks to be the perfect solution to the traditional clammy wet (non-pandemic era) face mask, page 37. face glove.com

Talking about the drab colors the past year or so, in clothing, I snagged some pics of the variety of clothing.
