Philpug: Völkl is expanding their Blaze line for 2024 at both ends of the collection. At the narrow end there is the 86 and 86w, and at the wide end, the 114. We got to experience the 114 in the conditions it was meant for, 15-20” of fresh at Deer Valley.

Normally I would expect a ski as light as the Blaze to get bucked around, but the 184 I skied was solid and stable as I could expect it to be in the not-so-champagne-light snow that we received. Not only did the ski not embarrass itself, it excelled, and I think that Völkl’s 3D sidecut with its 39/18/29 m radius in the 184 with the 154 mm tip allowed the 114 to float and not get deflected.

Whereas most skis in the 111-115 mm range have a lot of tip and tail rise and are surfy, the Blaze is a tad more traditional in camber design and stays a little more connected to the snow, but it still has some rise in the tip and tail.
  • Insider tip: The Blaze 114 is a really easy ski to ski for a 114. If between sizes, size up.

Who is it not for?
Those who think they want a wide ski but stay on the groomers; this 114 will wear you out.
