Still doesn't answer the question as to whether those passholders that chose to defer their 2020-21 pass will be considered a renewal for the 2021-22 pass.

We may not find out till the credits become applicable on April 19th. Note the fine print that you can't buy now and apply the credit later.

I see they changed their "payment" options from an inhouse, simple structure (no credit check) to outsourcing it to Affirm, complete with multiple options and interest rates (and a credit pull). I liked the original way, but going through Affirm probably makes them all more $.

So the Spring skiing option starts on 4/12, but if you want to apply your credit for the new pass, you cannot do that until 4/19? WTF?

Yes. Here in Canada, Tremblant close on 4/18 and you have to wait for 4/19 to get your deferral credit. You are basically not getting any spring skiing at all.
A new buyer would get spring skiing and the whole 2021-22 season and you are punished just because you gave money to Ikon 10 months earlier in the middle of the pandemic and were trusting their Adventure Assurance program.
By the way, there were nothing about waiting for the end of the season to get the referral credit in the Adventure Assurance T&C. They did even say that you can apply it to buy another 2020-21 Ikon pass if you already deferred and changed your mind and the passes are still on sale (how that would be possible if you have to wait April to get the credit ??)
This is not only unfair, it is clearly dishonest.

So who's calling IKON next week to hopefully get answers about renewal price, when can we start using the new "deferred" pass?

Strikes me that it's fairly small beer shabbiness in the scheme of megapass gotchas this year. Look on the the spring use as a little incentive to get non locked in customers to sign and pay up early. They don't need you to, they've already gotcha and anyway by definition you don't want to ski with them this season.

Doesn't feel entirely fair but it's hardly an unknown that new customers get a better deal than those already under contract in many consumer offerrings.

If you try to look at it from their point of view. [devil's advocate]
Someone deferred their pass to the next year, but now the skier wants to use the credit to activate the deferred pass, but want to ski this year too.
That's kinda like having your cake and eating it too.

I did defer my ICON last year and I'm ready to renew. Should I get the renewal rate? Not sure yet but I did have last years ICON and I had to cancel many of my Mar-May trips last year due to Covid. So I had my cake but didnt get to eat it too. So in a way by renewing my ICON for the following 21/22 season maybe I should be allowed to eat my cake now for rest of the 20/21 season. It seems like a continuation of what I lost last year being given back to me this year

I am the poster child of bad decisions with the Ikon pass , I did not defer and used it twice , now ME opened up and I properly will use it a couple of more times at SR , if VT opens up I will use it at Sugarbush and Killington late season certainly will not get my moneys worth. I will renew because it will be a good value when I return to my western trips next year .

I paid for a pass with an Adventure Assurance deferral option which clearly says that I can apply the value of my 2020-21 pass to buy a 2021-22 pass.
I am expecting to be able to apply the credit when I buy a 2021-22 pass, not have to wait for an arbitrary date which was not stated in the Adventure Assurance T&C when I bought my pass. Especially when they said that you can use your credit to buy another 2020-21 pass before it goes off sale sometime in December.
I don't see how just respecting the contract I agreed too is "having the cake and eating it too". And especially as I will end to pay as much as (if not more if they don't grant the renewal discount) as a new customer.

Not sure or your price of lift tickets but out west it doesn’t take many days to hit the break even point.

For me the price of the Ikon pass is to pay for my lift tickets out west and I tell myself I'm skiing for 'free' here in the east. ;)

Another way to look at it is it probably wasn't about making more money, but losing less money. The end total price to the customer using the payment plan is still the same so they aren't making more money compared to a pay-in-full customer. A service like affirm with 0% apr deals isn't free and affirm for sure gets a slice off the top and they get paid.

If everyone just paid the plan on time then for sure, doing it inhouse would be the more profitable approach. But I guess that isn't the case dealing with skibums, and all the work to service that payment plan add up, and it was cheaper/easier to outsource it to a financing company. If payment plan becomes so costly to run, they could just drop it completely.

I had the same take on the situation, Tricia. As someone whose wife deferred their pass this year, I’m disappointed, but it seems totally fair.

Also, I’m too lazy to look it up right now, but I’m 99% sure that on the adventure assurance FAQ it says that deferred passes are eligible for renewal pricing.
