Adblock, is it worth it?

Hi there,

I am a relatively new user here (as if you didn't know!), and I was wondering if there is a point in me disabling my adblock for this site. Perhaps it is a naive question, but do the ads help with upkeep? I am guessing yes, but they slow down the load times on this crappy University internet connection of mine.

As you all may know, we're running on a shoestring budget here. Phil and I are constantly trying to figure out how to make a $ so we can keep supporting a quality site for our members to enjoy.
We make $$ by ad dollars, both sponsored ads and google adsense ad placement.
We also offer people who support the site some swag options.

At least on my Android tablet, I found the ad blocker to slow down page load so much I've gone back to having ads. I tried four different ad blockers for Firefox and went back to Chrome. Maybe it works better on the PC.
