I have some less then stellar dynastar bases as well, like m-free series 108, 118 are just not fast it seems, but my FIS dynastar are faaast.

FIS skis have completely different base then pretty much any other ski, including ski touring skis. But thing is, you don't want that base on your backcountry skis, even if it's faster. But as far as look of today's Dynastar/Rossi backcountry skis base, I actually like it :)

True. In the past Atomic was using same softer bases from their race room skis for their daily products and they were prone to core shots like hell. Also when applying wax on a regular basis I could hardly tell any differences between brands but guess I am not hardcore or fast enough to even sense them.
