Lange World Beater Sticker.jpg

Honest I'm not completely sure where I gathered some of these things...when RBL closed and I with two other (far more well healed than I) took over the company to liquidate it I think I found the Lange banner and Lange Cup Panel Banner then. The old "stove-pipe" I took to the last lunch meeting I had with RB and had him sign the boot. He gave me a little "hell" for using that boot since it became almost as big a warranty problem as the "Lange Flow" problem, but I explained it was the only one I had with a color that his signature would show on. He signed this boot and the first pair of RBL white "team" ski that I made for myself as training for my new job. The "Pink Panthers" I bought years...and years ago at the Gart Brothers close out store...too small...so the ski mileage is small and the boots are not beat up. Lastly is the last remaining "Lange World Beater" sticker I have. It lived for a long time in the lead sharpener I kept with my drafting equipment (yes lead holder/drafting machine/triangles the works) and so has a little graphite smudges.

My first plastic boot. Flexed nicely indoors when warm. Killed the shins outdoors in the snow. Drove me to

which had the same flex all the time, adjusted with different sets of rubber band inserts.

You got it. Was there another boot with a metal door that opened so you could put your foot in? With pockets where you could add or subtract padding material that would compress into the (more or less) form of your foot? With adjustable flex?

Got into a pair of these in winter of 67-68. The Lange Standard was softer flex than the Comp and Lange-Bang wasn't such an issue. You did have to carry a few extra buckles bails in your pocket though until you started using electrical tape to keep them on. Used them 3 seasons?
With the old Lange you only tried to put them on cold once.

I found a pair of SoftStyle in a 200 and they ski great. Definitely get those out this year!
I seem to think they are good in the bumps. I didn't own a pair but a demo sticks in my mind and they are very soft.

Bring on the Lange Girls !!!

Bought these a week ago . They arrived yesterday ...

I would say 1972 .
And they are 175 cm so much too small to try them on the snow and - as always , I would not redrill them .

They need to be cleaned , obviously , as they are the same as when the previous owner stored them after his last season in the early '80 or so I was told .

Fantastic find for my region as Lange - the skis - were never very popular .

Now I must find a Lange Girl willing to be a model for a photoshot ...
Difficult ...

1972 is too early maybe 1977 or later. Are the Looks original because that brake was later than 72, I don't remember any ski brakes in 72. My Lange Freestyle skis were 78 - 79 and they didn't have the Lange logo on the bottom of the ski tip they had the double bar of Dynamic logo. Your Lange's have the Lange logo on the bottom of the ski tip so that would indicate a later vintage.

Bindings-wise ... if you look at the 6th photo , you will see red dots ... these skis had a different set of binding before .
For the logo and all , can I suggest looking at the SKIING MAGAZINE of January 1973 , page 17 , where you see the LANGE line . Available on Google .
The ski you see here is the ski you see in the SKIING page .
I admit I am not a specialist and certainly not a Lange specialist as they were seldom see in our neck in the woods . I could very well be wrong but I have an inkling I am right ...
Anyway these are very nice skis and I regret not being able to ski them . Well , I have VR17's so it should be a similar feeling ...

Who knew...
Just why I love ski collecting is if you see old skis at a Goodwill or thrift shop with a $10 or $15 price tag, you buy them, and ask questions later.
All this time I was saying to myself “someday I will make the ultimate 4 person shot skis with those old Lange skis”.
And your eyes are always open for that elusive pair of VR17’s.
I’ll take mine in 187cm w/ Lange branded graphics thank you very much!

@Philpug

This thread needs a couple of pics of the reissued lange pink Panthers. I remember you posting you got a pair of the 200 that were made.

Not sure why lange doesn't do a limited release of them for sale. They'd definitely sell I think.

Unfortunately there was never a plan to bring them to market. I agree, they need their place here.
