The above boot had an innovation that never gained traction but that I thought at the time was going to be a big hit: The second buckle "strap" up on the other side of the boot could be screwed in and out to increase or lessen pressure on the ankle, aiding in heel hold down. It needed refining but it was only around for a season or two, perhaps three.

The Nordica Astros Slalom AKA the Banana Boot started as a Foam Injection boot and the liner was changed to the Flow Fill liner as Foam Fill faded. Look at the way the boot is made, it has five buckles, locked hinge and the full leather liner the only flaw I remember was the foot bed was nothing special. What few people remember is in the later years of the model it was available in Orange and that was around the time the Olin Mark IV so popular. I sold thousands of the yellow boots but only a few of the orange. Not long after that boot Nordica went to the four buckle Grand Prix model that was a very fine boot as well but did not get the recognition of the Banana boot.

Uncle-A... yep mine were the orange version. I LOVED those boots, they were so comfortable and skied great. The only downside
(besides the plastic EXPLODING years later) was the leather liner took forever to dry out, and when skiing back to back days they would be damp getting back in the next morning.

So true Bill they took forever to dry, but I still liked the leather liner. The leather and the Flo Fill is what made the boot so comfortable to ski. It could have been a little wider for my fat foot but they held my foot better than most but not as well as my Lange boots.
