Thanks @crgildart, I am pretty sure these Red COMP lV skis were the second to the last version of an OLIN MARK lV. I have seen an Orange MARK lV with the “tail feathers” decoration but I have never seen a Square Tip in red.
?
Btw thanks again for helping me with my lll & lV collection!

Did you get those blue IIIs at the Trosa store in Durham? I noticed they are gone now.

No, a friend of mine spotted my pair at a thrift shop when driving through Tennessee. Funny thing was he sent me a photo asking if he should pick them up for me and I said for sure- the photo was cut short and I didn’t know they were square tips until the day I picked them up from him!

I could talk about my interest in OLIN skis for hours.
It would be fun to ski all of the ones I have collected over the years. Of the lll and lV skis I have only skied on the Dark Blue w/white MARK lllS skis and love them. My early MARK lV skis (OLIN lV) are cool as they were #’ed at a ski shop in the NC mountains and have “Demo” engraved so I like to think these represent where it all started, Hot Dog skiing with short skis and kicked up tails!

Of all the Olin skis I think the original III is the most durable. Maybe because it was marketed to the high end conservative adult male.

@skibot1000 Thanks for showing Picnic Rock. 1st place I ever went inverted (on purpose). Think it was on some Olin MK IV's when they were new.

Damn these skis are fun!
I have a pair of Head 320 W I cleaned up yesterday and gonna get mounted asap and compare to these. They way stiffer...

Nice video of you on the III'S you seem to be catching an edge on those skis how did you tune them and did you detune the tips? Looking forward to hearing about the Head 320 W but I guess that will be in the All Things Head thread. The 320 W was a ski for the West and they also made a 320 E for the East. The W was probably was softer than the E but they both had a early Shape style with a narrow side cut in the middle.

I just waxed the skis with no real tune. I think the ski was catching just from being in blocky weird snow, but is interesting I did the same near crash 2x. Perhaps mitigate with more time on them?

That is cool to here the back story on the name details. I was thinking the W was for 'wide' because they are a bit wider than the Olins. I didn't see any information on the 320 in the Head thread. I link some video reviews in the Atomic thread, if you are bored...

Hope to see you guys in the Head Thread!
I have a pair of the 320E’s. Blue P-Tex.
These were the First Shaped Ski in my opinion.
Designed to help you learn to ski was the marketing as well!
I read your book, looking forward to your movie!
lol

(ps-phone battery is low, looks like I have some other film here to catch up on as well, I can’t wait!)

First post, I'm not sure where else to post this.

I just rediscovered my obsession with skiing after about 25 years being away from it. found my old Lange boots and borrowed a pair of skis from a friend and went to a small local hill over at West Point. Why I stopped this fun is a mystery to me, I had a great time and turns out I'm not a horrible at it.

In the 80's I was obsessed with skiing and ski gear, could never afford the great stuff but nevertheless managed to score a pair of Olin Mark VI from my generous dad, along with some Lange boots (those Lange posters) I skied the hell out of those skis and after my dad passed I brought them to my house. He still had the gear in his, all taken care of. He continued to ski into his 70's

Thing is, I've also rediscovered my obsession for these skis in particular, and 80's gear. So, here I am with the question......

Can i ski them? They seem to be in amazing condition.. In my research I've read many things regarding attempting to use old skis. Of course the old Marker M36 bindings are probably dangerous but the skis seem like they could stand a ride and I'm likely to take them to the West Point hill to try them out. If they work ok I might invest in some new bindings for them. The skis I'm borrowing this season are fairly new and carve pretty well, much easier than I remember any skis I had and I know the Olins probably won't be magic BUT, what could it hurt?

I've read that Olins stand less of a chance of de-lamination than others, I've read that storage conditions determine the chances of it, I've read that skiing old skis is a ridiculous pursuit.

Is it? I really want to take these things for a ride and see.
Sorry for the super late reply. Simply said, I would say the old skis are 10x harder to ski than the new skis; yes, I said 10x. I takes knowledge of older technical sking knowledge, such as converging and divergiging turns, up & weighting, and when all else fails, the hop turn. I get completely worked in the snow we get in the Pacific NW. Whereas, the would do better on ice and fast groomers IMJ. I dio it for the challenge, but would highly recommend the new school gear if getting back into it and being older. Way easier and less chance of injury in my book.

Can anyone help with info on these?

Mid 90's ski basically a rebranded K2, probably the TRC or 5500. Pretty much no value though. The last pair we had became a coat rack. There was a powder version with the same graphics.
