My sister-in-law is the only person I know that had a pair of Yamaha skis. She liked them. Said they were pretty light and agile.

Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix, 1983.

I've told this story before...in the early 1970s I was with my late Mom at a ski shop in Tysons Corner, VA (before it became the mammoth retail/commercial center it is today). My Mom won a pair of skis in a promotional drawing that day. Spider Sabich was there and picked my Mom's ticket out of a drum. IIRC, my Mom upped her odds by stuffing the drum with about 10-15 entry cards/tickets and there were only about 100 people at the shop.;) She gave me the prize, which was a pair of Yamaha Hi-Flex skis. I was about age 17 and possibly close to full height (5'10"). I was allowed to pick a pair from the rack at an appropriate length for my size, they were 195cms in length. I kept those skis for about 7 or 8 years and as I remember they were pretty turny, which I liked. I have good memories of Yamaha, but around 1978 I went with a shorter pair of Dynastars that were 185cms and better for bump skiing, which I was trying to get into at the time, with only partial success.:D
Here is a photo with me and the Yamaha skis at Killington in Apr 1976, I was 22.

I remember when we were lads a kid who had some Yamaha's that he clearly intended to break for the warrantee replacement. Last I saw him, we was swinging them into a tree like he was hitting a home run... over and over and over... we thought it was about the funniest thing we'd ever seen! :)

I had a pair of Yamaha Paramount XL's in the late 70's. They were a kind of brown and orange ,with chevrons on like Volkl Zebras. Clear PTex bases that said Paramount Racing Team. An awesome ski, skied like nothing I had ever skied on before. I rode them for a couple of years until I wore them out. I replaced them with a newer pair of Paramounts, XM's I think. They were the deadest, most lifeless pair of skis. Dumped them right away, Yamaha stopped making skis, never skied another pair.
