Hello much wiser ski compatriots!
Planning a trip to zermatt to ski and relax in early March. I am considering combining short trip to Milan with train into Zermatt. Is this a reasonable train trip and is a significant drop in beauty / ease of access from Geneva?
many thanks in advance!

On the way out we flew into Genova with a quick stop in Amsterdam and took the train to Zermatt .
On the way home left from Wengen and took the train across Europe to Amsterdam and flew home from there. Awesome trip.

The train journey from Milan to Zermatt is pretty straight forward, if you are traveling from Milan city you take a train from Milano Centrale to Visp (you might have to change in Brig) in Visp you change to the train to Zermatt. The total journey time varies depending on which train you take from Milan, but it should be around 3h 30min.

The first bit of the route isn’t very scenic, but it improves as you get closer to the mountains, the last bit is through the Simplon tunnel.

Check out the Trenitalia and Swiss Federal Railways online timetables for further details.
