Good choice on the skis. If you can, find a family on the team who tunes skis, or take them into a shop a few times during the season for sharpening (and wax). The snow on runs that get used for training in MN and WI gets set up good and solid by January and is what non racers call “ice”. Sharp edges will go a long way toward helping him feel like he can do it right, and they get dull pretty fast in those conditions.
