Yep, we had that in our 2019 Federal election. The claim was without ICE the weekend would be ruined - EVs would still be in the garage recharging after the hectic working week. Of course it doesn't make sense - it didn't need to. Just allowed one side to rubbish the policies of the other. And as a result we continued to actively discourage the uptake of EVs for another 3 years.

Australians are near top in terms of urbanised driving. The average distance for all vehicles is 12,100 km per year. Which works out at 33 km/day. And that's for ALL vehicles. 75% of the vehicles are passenger cars that certainly drive less than trucks.

Long distance vacation driving is more relevant discussion on a ski forum. Bring on the roads and parking lots that are all giant solar powered wireless charging pads. That and/or standardized hot swappable batteies/stations.

First, long distance vacation driving is more relevant discussion on a ski forum, but forum relevancies don't - and shouldn't be allowed to - set individual forumites' daily priorities. If LDVD takes third or fourth seat behind everything else, it's doing well for itself.

Second, you're still thinking in terms of the current pattern of LDVD. In the current pattern of LDVD yes, an ICE might save you a few hours getting to Vermont from NC and back. BUT what you're not accounting for is changes to LDVD patterns. I submit to you that, for example, on multiday travel, with built-in overnight travel stays, the EV might be able to claw real world convenience back.
