Made reservations for the morning session next Saturday. Just put the boat away and now going to jump into the ski season. Bought a multiple package of tickets and plan on a good fall warm up before the outdoor season begins for me in November. View attachment 211319
What time will you be there? It's a 2 hr drive for me so I doubt I will be there before 1 pm.

Anyone interested in going to Big Snow this coming Saturday? They will have moguls this weekend.

On the off chance that anyone subscribed to this thread is interested in skiing there early on a weekend with no lifts ...

Here's your Big chance for on-time uphill access to Big Snow NJ: perhaps the only such opportunity to ever skin up indoors (on real snow), including perhaps the first-ever ISMF-format skimo sprint race indoors, or attend some skills clinics, or just skin & ski on your own.
(Plenty of room to nordic ski too, especially to work on skating skills, although Europe has plenty of indoor ski tunnels, so that would not be a first, sorry. But please feel free to forward the survey link to any potentially interested nordic racers or teams.)

Survey to gauge interest for Sat Oct 14 or Sun Oct 15:

I'm sending that Big Snow note to the Manhattan Nordic and Mid Hudson XC ski lists.

How are you sure the "hassle factor" will be low? I got kicked out of that mall by security at 9:45am when the mall officially was supposed to open at 10am. And they called the cops on me more for supposedly pushing one of them (he was walking in front of my then stopped and I bumped him).

Pretty sure I'll be at Big Snow on the 15th for lift-served skiing.

EDIT - supposedly one commitment from Manhattan Nordic SC so far. if it's the 15th, I'm going to try, but unlikely (I indicated that on the form). If so, it'll be a double day (with two GWB crossings) for me.

Thanks JT for spreading the word!

And that's a helpful reminder for me to append the "après ski" activities in the survey to include returning at 10am for ... more skiing.

As for hassle factor, my intro to Big Snow was this event:
I left Western Mass at a time that I thought was cutting it close, but instead the drive down there was so fast that I arrived at 8:20, forty minutes early.
I put on my inline skates, skated through the parking garage to the entrance, took the elevator to the main floor, then skated into the bathroom.
Kind of weird to be in that mall totally empty and quiet, especially since when I returned to eat lunch, it sure was hopping!

But I'll check with Big Snow to ensure that we won't have any problems.
We're also not requesting anything special for the 6:30 - 8:30 morning slot (other than not running the lift), since they do this a lot -- so often that many weekend dates are already booked for early fall.
(The other option is to get on snow at 8:15 pm on a Mon through Thu, but that would not work well for skiers coming from further north. I'm hoping that a Sat or Sun morning will provide appeal for making it into a larger NYC visit, which is what I've done with my three ski outings so far.)
