It is a lot of work, and you have to enjoy it. I love the culinary side of hunting and fishing. Crappie is an awesome fresh water fish for eating, very delicate white meat, with no bloodline to cut out. Most fresh water fish have a bloodline you have to cut out of the fillets, but not crappie.

I eat it 2 ways mainly, fried like Long John Silvers. Or on cast iron, healthy way, the way my wife likes it. Cooked these for her recently, just seasoned salt and pepper and olive oil, now a little butter also would be great but she does not like that..These I used lemon pepper..

You can see after 1 flip, the crappie is falling apart it is so delicate and delicious...

This is Long John Silver Style!! I might have to serve up a mess of fried crappie at the Taoa gathering! Cooked these while I was camping and duck hunting...

Black cast iron pan, that would be my favorite. We have a saltwater fish called a porgy it is also a white fish but if not filleted properly it can have a lot of bones. I was out with my fishing club on a charter boat and the captain had a microwave on board, he took a porgy right off the hook filleted it wrapped it in a wet paper towel and nuked it. It was delicious even if it wasn't deep fried. You could try it with a crappie fillet also, wrap it in a wet paper towel and nuke it a few minutes. You might like it.

Yup. (If you look closely you can see evidence of fishing.)
Is that a fly rod in the bottom right corner of the photo? Could that be a trout net sticking out of the basket?

Nice boat. Do tell. Dragonfly? Like the pack basket too.
Curtis Nomad, c. 1988.

The pack basket looks okay from a distance but it's actually cheap and not very sturdy.

:roflmao:
Old price from a yard sale 20+ years ago. No body took me up on the flies then. :nono:
It's just a piece of styrofoam I used and haven't replaced since it still works.
When I saw the price, the first thing I thought was that has to be an old photo. :)

Never done fly fishing for trout, really want to in NM or CO. Many years ago bought a fly rod and played around with it, casting on local ponds around the house here in Texas catching large mouth bass on top water. So I got the hang of the casting it.

When I started flyfishing, I practiced at local ponds catching warm water fish: bass and sun fish.
It's surprising what you can find even in an urban environment here in SF South Bay.
All that practice gets one used to casting, line management, and tying on/replacing flies.

I love the take on top water (dry flies). But, usually catch larger with subsurface presentations, but it feels more like work than fun most of the time. All that said, dry fly fishing on small streams is the funnest version of fly fishing for me.

Sometimes, the stars align and the picture looks almost as good as real life...

Nice photos, is that a blue and white stand up paddle board in one of the photos? I have fished from my kayak but would not have thought to use a stand up paddle board. I probably couldn't fly cast and stand up on one of those.

Theres definately a try not to suck learning curve involved with the sup and fishing it
and weather/wind limitations
ive pushed em and walked back to the car and picked the sup up on the other side
and the power squadron jabronis in their wakeboats whippin the lakes into frenzy is usually my cue to leave
and the inability to both fish and paddle make it hard on faster moving rivers
more so once you hookup
doable though
IMG_8015_(2).JPG

better used to cover water and stop and wade fish in smaller faster rivers.
where it excels is still or slow moving waters and sight fishing as you git a way better view and i throw better standing up
i have 4 or 5 now
Most of the bigger players make a fishing model
i have a couple Bote's
the big girls 12'6" 3' beam and 6'' thick with 2 chambers itll take 400 lbs and is fairly stable
downside is its 80 lbs and a pita to lug around
the one in the pics 12'4" single chambered and 4'' thick and a few inches skinnier
and airliner friendlier at 50lbs ready to fly and much easiser to portage or carry sacrifices stability
SavedImage_0716211007c.jpg

roofamsup.jpg

i got a bit burnt out on trout and watching other peoples bobbers and the river ran through it crowds guiding
anybody can catch troots
consistently gitting big poopfish aka carp to eat a fly is way harder and rewarding to me
especially in clear waters

its a visual game of finding worthy happy targets and presenting offerings that sometimes git eaten
DSCN1157_zpsv0z1royy.jpg

the sups stealth, manuvearabilty and elavated /standing casting platform make it well suited for that application

its an odd addiction
wont tell ya i aint odd
