Ok, so educate me here. What does "flattening" the base mean? Is that the same thing as a base grind?
What does "cleaning up the edges" mean? Does that just mean doing a standard edge sharpening? I hate to be a dumb ass, but I want to be as specific as possible when I take them in. I don't talk "tech talk" and I want to be sure that I'm getting done exactly what needs to be serviced.
Thanks much
Most shops have a new ski prep. they should be ensuring the bases are flat, Each ski manufacturer sets a 'factory tune" for the base edge and side edge, for soft snow, generally speaking, most people are fine with a 1 base, 2 edge, (I prefer a 1:3 or .70:3) but most people don't even know what their skis are when new. I would ask them to "detune" down to the contact point. That means, knocking off the sharp edges at the tips and tails. . Its not really necessary on a 2 edge. New Ski's also need a coat of hot wax. I recommend a base coat of cold temp wax with a second coat of all purpose temp wax.
So, you can ask your shop if they offer a new ski prep package and what that entails. Let me know if you need more info, I am more than happy to help. We understand not all live in our very small world.
