62F, coastal headwinds as always.
Note to self: If you're gonna take the lower elevation path, check the tide level first. #subsealevelgravel

Rode the Tour de Steamboat 50 mile Honey Stinger Gravel Ride this AM with Katie Lindquist-Eriksen (yep Eriksen Cycles and owner of the Tour de Steamboat Charity ride. Katie is total bad-ass rider.) I'm a BOD member and Course Director. We rode the course to ensure our GPS routing is correct and our course marking plan is set. This course is fantastic with a mix of road, gravel, some sections of loose rocky challenging climbs and descents along with several miles of trail around Stagecoach reservoir then, along the meandering tail waters of the Yampa River and across vast open farm land back towards town.

rode "North Routt" area today on a route called "dark side of Fly Gulch". you know it has to be good. Rode with a good friend and former "epic" dude, just getting into Gravel and it blew his doors off! Gorgeous day, even saw Pronghorn Antelope (last pic, rare to get this close) and black bear but didnt get his pic. Its a solid ride, 35 miles, and 2476' with sections of 2x farm roads with steep, punchy loose climbs. good fun.

Todays ride was a little chilly after a 30* morning but calm winds. We did see the aftermath of what happens when a truck hits an elk. I'll spare you the carcass.... But the ride today was beautiful with a lush green valley to the west with a lot of cows keeping a watchful eye on us with a couple in the road. Both were kind and allowed us to pass quietly. Our ride went to the north then to the west across 40 and then to the south through RR45 which includes several miles of fun but challenging riding through baby-head rock sections and back into town. A nice 36 mile, 2400' morning. Im at 155 miles this week with over 10k in climbing with one more ride ahead. will be a personal best for all gravel miles Nothing compared to many up here though .

I think I'm the only one seeing these but what the heck. :).

Just under 200 miles w/ 13,200 feet of climbing this week and I'm tired. Todays ride around Sleeping Giant was spectacular. A little smoke haze but otherwise bluebird skies and light winds. Saw some eagles and elk. The landscape up north is so vast. I love riding through areas where you cant see anything manmade except the dirt roads.

I gave you a long enough break from ride pics, so here's few from today . Gorgeous day that is actually "normal", 79 and sunny. the New norm is more like 90+... I digress. todays highlights, other than the weather, A large black bear with a really brown shimmering coat and a mother pronghorn antelope with 2 fawns. Testing out a 43mm Gravelking SS up front. Love it!

I did a brisk paced 42.5 mile gravel ride this AM after some rain yesterday. cool, overcast and some gusty winds. During the section of the ride that is on farm 2x road, I ran into a patch of mud. I didnt think it would be bad but it turned out to be thick, heavy mud that clogged up my wheels . did you know there aren't any sticks out in prairie, grazing country to clean out your drivetrain and stays? There were a bunch of cows around me Mooing and I'm pretty sure they were laughing at me.

I ride plenty of MTB level trails, sections of deep loose gravel with 6" washboard and 2x farm roads that are in pretty crappy condition but I dont look for miles of it. My bike is setup for gravel riding. I ride it well and dont mind a little of it but I dont find it particularly fun I recently moved to 43 GravelKing SS's. My friend is a pro-level gravel and mtb rider and she doesnt like courses that are so crazy rutted and rocky. she will race her hardtail with slicks for that stuff. She races gravel on 36's. She races Leadville 100, DK and many other races. 3 years back she finished 2nd place in her age bracket at the DK and only lost due to a train. :).
