My wife (Maureen) is going with me. She says that I don't listen to what they are telling me. I will be irritated if they tell me in front of my wife, no skiing. She's a very rules oriented person.
I've found this to be true, not sure if you're using sarcasm or not. :) I've been in rooms where doctors say some very serious things and other people take away only the good things they want to hear.. it's weird. Some type of mental filter...

I seem to have the same filtering issue. After several medical "surprises", I always want my wife with me if at all possible - she's a honey badger when it comes to doctors, and will rip them a new one if the even think about talking down to her/mansplaining. Helps that she's got a very good medical background/knowledge.

Back from the doctor. Maureen wrote stuff down. I kept asking her - "did you write that down". She took care of pretty much everything including the co-pay.

The ablation is off the table for nowl. I am at 2% which is quite good. The fellow from Boston Scientific played with my pace maker and the doctor scheduled me for 6 mo. However this doctor and another will be enstalling a Watchman on Monday.

Just back from the Watchman procedure. I would say that it did not go well. After the operation in the recovery area which is mostly the staging area of Cardio and some Neuro, I had a TIA, I am the one that picked it up. It was my speech and it was serious. But it did not last long... 30 - 45 seconds. The entire room zeroed in on what was happening with me, but it ended almost as quickly as it began. During that time my speech was destroyed, but it did come back.

They kept me over night. I worked with Cardiolgists and Neuro Physicians. I had a very extensive MRI for 45 min. This was at Albany Med. Over night at the hospital was not a pleasure, but the staff was kind and took care of me.

I have had some thing similar a while, back five plus years. I did not expect this.

Buddy of mine had a TIA at home earlier this year. Concerning enough to get it checked out. Turned out to be a blockage in a carotid artery. Gruesome photos and 6 weeks of low activity including no driving. After which he's been good to go.

The Watchman is a device used to seal off the left atrial appendage, which is the most likely location of blood clot formation in the heart. Afib causes this spot to be a low-flow area.

My problem with the Watchman was/is the way to install it is virtually identical to pulmonary vein isolation, which has a high success rate. If you fix the afib, why do you need the Watchman? It's more complicated than that, but it always seemed to be better to go for the cure than the patch.

One week to go for my second ablation procedure.

My turn? Finally checking in with a PCP doc after about 7-8 years of just specialist and urgent care stuff. EKG abnormal. Not bad enough to send me to the hospital but more testing ASAP. I've had some dizziness and light headed feeling when exercising, yard work, especially bending over to pick stuff up.. Knew it was past time to get a full check up..

Narrative

Normal sinus rhythm
Incomplete right bundle branch block
Left ventricular hypertrophy
Abnormal ECG

No previous ECGs available

Sorry, if you want me to review your scans I'll need your MyChart password.:ogcool: Yup, looks like your turn. Good luck!

As a heads up, be surprised if they don't check you for sleep apnea as well.

Buttload of bloodwork. All pretty much the same as it was 8 years ago. Sortaborderline stuff but nothing that has me freaking out. Next up, lung tests.. which is probably good to do. Dad died of emphysema.

^^ Don't know any of those results.

______________

Today was basically full of fatigue. I kept thinking about the TIA and what might be happening now. I took three hard naps and had crazy dreams.

We when back to Albany Med. I didn't know what action to take but their directions said - "severe pain" which this was as far as I am concerned. The doctor was pissed that we showed up but she quickly gave me a green light, probably to get rid of me. My wife was really embarrassed to intrude on her busy schedule. I wasn't. I am preoccupied with what might come and if it will affect my skiing.

Dad a smoker?
Yep.. to the ugly end. I smoked until 20 years ago... Grew up in a house full of smoke, partied from age 15 to 35.. Cigarettes daily from about 1987-2005. I should have already died several times over.
