From the DP article:

Alterra Mountain Co. has thrown down an $899 season pass that offers unlimited skiing at 12 resorts and a lower-cost version to replace the beloved Rocky Mountain SuperPass, promising a season-pass war that will challenge Vail Resorts’ previously unrivaled Epic Pass and transform the ski resort industry.

The Ikon Pass — on sale March 6 at ikonpass.com — will offer unlimited access to Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Steamboat and Eldora and eight ski areas in California, Vermont, West Virginia and Canada, plus seven days of skiing each at six destination resorts: Utah’s Deer Valley, Wyoming’s Jackson Hole, Montana’s Big Sky, Canada’s Revelstoke, and Vermont’s Killington and Sugarbush. It also comes with a total of seven days at the four Aspen Snowmass resorts, AltaSnowbird in Utah, SkiBig3 in Canada (Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise and Mt. Norquay), and the trio of Sunday River, Sugarloaf and Loon Mountain in New England.

We’ll do the math for you: 26 destinations in nine states and four Canadian provinces, totaling almost 64,000 acres.

As a rival for the Epic Local Pass, the $599 Ikon Base Pass provides unlimited access to eight ski areas, including Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Eldora and areas in California, West Virginia and Canada. It comes with five days at each — with holiday restrictions — of these resorts: Steamboat, California’s Mammoth, Deer Valley, Jackson Hole, Big Sky, Vermont’s Stratton and Killington, Revelstoke and Sugarbush, plus five total days at AspenSnowmass, AltaSnowbird, SkiBig3 and the New England mountains. The base pass has blackout dates between Christmas and New Year’s Eve and the holiday weekends in January and February.

Kids 12 and under pay $199 for the Ikon Pass and $149 for the Ikon Base Pass with the purchase of an adult’s pass.

I'm excited about this. The 5 days alone at Killington, Sugarbush, Loon and Stratton will make it worth it. Add in the days at Mammoth, SSV and Lake Louise and I'm so happy. We spend a good bit of time at Killington also so thinking about doing the $899 option so that'll cover Killington completely and we wouldn't have to rely on the buy one get ones for early season or buy a spring pass. I'm stoked.

I'm surprised to see unlimited days at Steamboat. Great for Steamboat locals, season passes just got much cheaper. And now it includes a bunch of other resorts and days, where previously had none.

Only 7 days at Aspen, though. Aspen locals continue to pay top dollar for a season pass. Hope they get some extra days somewhere.

Wow! Better than I'd hoped!

No Taos though.
And no Crested Butte. CB was a headline resort on the RMSP+ and now looks to be out on its own, or maybe on the Mountain Collective?

Assuming IKON is exclusive, there are not many destination resorts remaining for a Mountain Collective Pass:
  • Taos
  • Crested Butte
  • Snowbasin
  • Sun Valley
  • ?????

Maybe, I think for the average Denver/Front Range skier (much of Copper's traffic) this looks a lot like the Rocky Mountain Super Pass.

True, and I am forgetting that for a lot of the Front Range market, this just makes the RMSP a lot more expensive.

Some of the same resorts will still be on the Mtn Collective, though, won't they? I can't remember which ones, but I think I remember Jackson Hole will remain.

Maybe Abasin will up the number of Taos days on its pass.

Curious to see what this does to season passes at the limited resorts. The Sugarbush pass prices dropped significantly with the mountain collective, and you got the additional MC benefits, wonder if that will continue.

I'm curious to see where the Epic Pass price goes ...

This thing look nice for CO folks who don't want to ski Vail resorts. Plenty of pass options for those people now wow.

Still requires two trips out west for many mid-west folks to justify the expense...

A lot more expensive? Wasn't the early price on the RSMP+ about $500? I guess $500 -> $599 is a substantial percentage but I think it's a reasonably comparable price, and the Ikon base pass has much better bonus days at other mountains than the RSMP+ did.

I am bummed to be losing the 3 days at CB, though.
