Who is even going to use this?
Book by May 5, 2023 for next years trip; for a whole $100 off.
Destinations haven't even finished promoing the rest of this season, let alone launching their own travel promos for next season.

The people who are frugal going to be pulled in by a $100 off promo until they can try planning their own deal.
The people who are spendy aren't going to be swayed by $100.
The people who are busy and need a concierge don't plan so far ahead, and won't meet the May5th deadline for booking.

I really would like to know the conversation in the room for them to come up with this useless promo.

Taos moving to base plus is good news!

Taos haven't been all that busy this season.
It has been a good season all over the west.

I was wondering the same thing and was going to ask if anyone EVER has used this? Lol

See you on the slopes in July!

Stupid question, but the inner cheapskate needs to know: regarding the age brackets of the child and young adult, is the age at the time of purchase, or in the season? My kid was born in October...
Hmm...good question b/c my son is 12. I think they always try and grab the extra $ by you declaring their age for NEXT season...but I have to go check the fine print. Its a HUGE increase in price when they turn 13. Sucks.

My understanding is it is at time of purchase.
Extra incentive to buy early if that consideration is a deadline.

It is such a small slice of ppl affected, and only happens one season for each stepup for the lifetime of the patron, I think they're ok cutting you a break but locking you in for the season.

You know the locals hate the front range powder crowds coming down.

Just looking for a scapegoat. The reality is there are many more locals than front range powder seekers. Chair #1 has been a cluster on a powder day as far back as I can remember. Long before Ikon.
They needed to provide access to chair #4 on a powder day to alleviate the crowd on chair #1.

Taos required reservations for Ikon passholders and the reservations were blacked out a few weeks in advance for some weekend dates. Had some friends that were considering going there but had to change plans since reservations were unavailable.

Black out periods do not exist for Ikon full passes at Taos. The number of Ikon reservations at Taos are very limited. They get booked up early. Real early.
With the best snow in many years for most of the western resort. Taos visitation number were under performing. They actually released additional Ikon reservations during the President weekend.

I am saddened by this offering as a Tahoe person.

I love Palisades. I would rather ski there than anywhere else in the area. But it has become almost unusable on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and powder days. The hill itself is as good as ever but the parking and traffic situation is horrendous. I've gotten to where I habitually do HV on Fridays (because no one drives down the East Shore to go skiing and the parking is ok), N*on storm days and just go over to Palisades on weekdays. I ski my local Diamond Peak more because it's just less hassle. At times I can literally get to Kirkwood faster than Palisades, despite the 3x distance from Incline- and Kirkwood is a fantastic place to ski.

So for basically the same money, I can get a Tahoe Value Pass for the VR properties and a Rose Pass and have a lot more options and a lot less hassle.

I get that they raised the price, but there is just no value in the increase. I would have paid $1500 easily for a Palisades pass I could actually use. Given the stress I'm disappointed they didn't do a Crystal type solution.

Admittedly it doesn't solve for Spring all that well, but I could basically buy an Ikon pass every other year when the spring skiing looks compelling, get my spring laps at Mammoth and PV and save quite a bit of money.

I ran into the Taos reservation situation when I was out there...couldn't get my Sunday booked..guess I waited too long. As a full Ikon pass holder, I should be guaranteed access to the mtn...just like Deer Valley's policy. I love Taos and I appreciate the idea of keeping the mtn less crowded...but I think that reservation system needs to be better aligned with the Ikon pass partnership.

Totally agree with you on that.
There have been great deal of resistance from locals regarding the Ikon pass. Management is trying to thread the line between appeasement and making the numbers.
I am there most of the season. My take is the locals are over reacting. It's so easy to blame the Ikon skiers for all the ills.

So Taos has ditched the base pass and declared itself in the elite but the quid pro quo from Ikon is that they can no longer control through reservations. Seems skier friendly. Wonder how long it is before the Base Pass is eroded to the state that it is not worth having and the "Plus" becomes the defacto base. Guess it depends on where one skis.
