Part 1 of an interesting article on the history and future of ski racing, from the Vail Daily. You can find part 2 by scrolling.
Or, probably find all parts at Vail Daily.

Great article, but.. what does it cost to enroll a kid in ski club vail? And for the family to find a hotel or motel for every winter weekend? Or to be able to be there midweek for speed training?

The US will languish in international competiton as long as access is restricted to a shrinking number of families rich enough to bear these costs. Plus the extra costs of summer training overseas. No sign any of this is changing.

At the same time, club level early coaching is terrible & parents are pushed to wilder efforts to obtain qualified training opportunities.

It takes both. Good coaching & a exceptional athlete.
