I picked up a new pair of Black Diamond Helio 95's and noticed that the edge near the tip did not properly line up. I had my bindings mounted and did not notice until afterwards. Its my fault for not properly inspecting them prior to buying however is this a structural issue? I don't understand how the thickness of the edge material can increase like that. I'm going to warranty through Black Diamond however I am curious if it is a major concern or not. Thank you for the help!

Isn't the edge pulled away from the ski? Is it thicker or is there a gap between the edge and the ski? the shop should have noticed it , so I would say you're off the hook! Get 'em replaced

That’s like buying a new car with a dent in the wheel. I guess it no big deal as said but good luck turning on ice when you need to, or maybe I don’t get it.

Its flush if you run your finger along the outer edge. If you run your finger along the lower part of the edge you can feel it curve up slightly. It looks like they tried to fill it with epoxy.

echo: likely nbd, but if you paid full price, I'd contact BD

What does nbd mean? I paid full price (didn't get "new with blemish" but they are last years model. Thanks for the reply!

sorry, no big deal. From a skiing standpoint. But like everyone said, I'd try to address it with BD. That's Black Diamond

Same issue with mine and Rossi treated me like I was a 3rd rate citizen and the people I bought from essentially told me “stop acting all paranoid” ….. when you pay over a G for gear it better at least come out of the mold correct. See my new black ops that are going back. Send em back. Not your fault someone didn’t deliver the good you grew to expect from Rossi!

I don't even understand that.
It looks like at the factory the roll of edge material ran out, so they carried that piece to the end, and butted the new end of the next roll to it and kept going.
Are both skis built that way (for some actual reason?) or is it only on one? If both are that way, are they handed? (R & L?)

As others stated, it probably won't immediately affect performance, but it is a stress riser that probably will affect the life, durability, and appearance of the ski.

Is every ski of that model line built that way? 2-piece edges butted at the side of the tip as opposed to a continuous edge from tail to tail?
If not, it is a factory defect & poor craftsmanship at that price point

yah - butt
Should it even exist on a high end ski?
Unless every ski of that model is made the same way for some unknown technical reason?

For instance, i understand that some skis do have separate individual edges on each side, meeting at a tip protector or reinforcer of some sort.
They tend to go up a bit further toward the tip. And the overall ski including its core & reinforcements if any in that area, are designed to avoid problems (presumably)
I see potential performance asymmetry and a weak area in the skis shown.

If we flip your reasoning around, all high end skis should have tip and tail protectors or some sort of hardware instead of full wrap edges on tip and tail. *shrug* it's a set of choices.

Honestly I'm not fussed about a butt join of wrapped edges on a light weight ski - so long as it's relatively tidy, and not a gaping jagged nightmare worse than medieval teeth.
