I wanted to take the time to bump this thread today because we're working with @Dan Egan and hosting an interview with James Niehues this evening on Facebook Hangouts.

Also, you may have noticed that we have a new addition to the Pugski store for the Hall of Fame. We are setting up auctions move forward with silent auction items acquired for the Hall of Fame events that were cancelled.
Among those items are a few original sketches and original oil paintings from James Niehues. In this sectionof the
store, you can also purchase The Man Behind the Map book
Proceeds go to U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame

He did a new map for Cardrona, NZ last year. Was a brief article from James in Cardrona's marketing material about the process he followss in putting the map together. Really interesting to see how he goes about it, particularly getting the perspective right for accurately portraying distances and ski area features in 2D. He did Whakapapa, NZ back in 1988, and Coronet Peak at some stage as well. Not sure how many other NZ ones he has done.

There are 6 New Zealand resorts/maps in the "The Man Behind the Maps":

Cardrona - 2018
Coronet Peak - 1990
Snow Park - 2011
The Remarkables - 1990
Treble Cone - 2011
Whakapapa - 1988

Thanks for that. Must get a copy of that book.

Snow Park is now a winter proving ground for car manufacturers (Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds).

I noticed on the James Nieheus website that the lift info for the Whakapapa art print is current day (with one mistake) but obviously the trail map is 1988 lift configuration...not that I'm holding that against him :)
