Many people do not realize how good this ski is.

In that picture is Chris Ryman, a very good friend on ours. We get to ski with him quite a bit here at Northstar. I wills ay the first 5500 that is shown in that picture was not my favorite, the next generation with the Triaxal braiding was a more playful ski.

The 1983-1984 K2 5500 Unlimited is a terrific mid-level + all-mountain ski. It is more than enough ski for the recreational expert. Nelson Carmichael, the best mogul skier ever, would have won the 1997 pro-mogul championship skiing the 5500 Unlimited. It is my prototype.

If shape skis would not have been invented....I still wouldn't be skiing it. Went to P20's.

That's some great skiing he did with Jens Husted. Still relevant today. The 4-5 minutes of JC Killy skiing powder with real piano music, not synthesized like the rest, is one of the great sequences ever filmed in rec skiing. Despite all the mistakes from JC. Then it morphs into Ryman and Husted skiing moguls with JC. Really great stuff.

That dvd is still worth getting people! Check ebay. I have the vhs i got years ago off the bay for a couple $.

Anyway, tell him his skiing is still appreciated!

I just got a pair of 185CM 5500's, in the first photo they are the second from the top so I have to guess 1985 season. I posted some pictures in the all things K2 thread. Not sure if I should post them here as well.

I still have mine - I love them. Sadly the paint is coming off. Like in big flakes. My off season project is to try to find a way to keep using them - or find a reasonably priced old pair. There’s one on eBay right now but it’s kind of $$. I’ve been told 2 tone epoxy for repairs but won’t stop the rest of the paint from flying off. Repair guys tell me buy new skis but the closest thing made are those mogul skis. I already have those funky “shaped” skis, a pair I don’t reminder buying with round upturned front & back & actually a pair of “mogul” skis which I got before an injury & I am a little scared of them! - still out of shape. Anyone know of a similar 21st century ski to the 5500 triaxial? K2 thought maybe their 244

Well the 5500 is shaped.
They’re just skis these days. Kids don’t even know what a straight ski is.

The sea became populated with a lot nicer fish since the 5500.
