There are also words about how the buyer has to get it out of the warehouse in a hurry and have a licensed person to take custody. And apparently it is currently "in bond" which I think the means the buyer has to pay alcohol duities on it when he removes it from the warehouse.

The added costs just keep coming. You probably have to pay to park when you pick it up, too.
Plus you probably don't just toss a 374 liter cask into the back of your Subaru.

Maybe @Tricia will pick up the Cask, offer some up at events ...

caught this on Bloombergs, guess I never thought about buying up at an auction:

Who besides me is following this auction?
That's more than $1million USD and a day of bidding left. :geek:

This may sound like a dumb question, but what do you think the winner of this auction is going to do with it?
Simple answer is "drink it." but....
  • Throw a party
  • Owns a pub and is going to sell it at 10,000/glass to patrons
  • Drink it alone
  • Has a special event coming that this would serve well.

Pretty sure you don't drink/eat/bathe in such things - unless the planet killing gamma ray burst/asteroid is bearing down on us.
So I'll go with investment/hedge against a major loss of distillery capacity.

My current selection. The RWE is decent. The Copper and Cask is good but not as good as their rye. The Ardbeg is the best thing I've tasted from them.

I also have this but there's another thread for that.

Tried my first Ardbeg, Ardbeg Drum, at a local watering hole.
Apparently it's rum cast finished.
If Drum is representative of the regular 10/12 year, I get the appeal.
Love the full bodied taste, with high notes. The finish was just ok; I'm thinking the regular would be fuller.
Didn't take a picture, here's someone else's review for reference.

The Ardbeg 10 is a bit too heavy on the peat. The smokiness overpowers the other flavors, IMO.

I like the 10. It's HUGE. The other bonus is no one else likes it and I don't have to share.

So .... what all was in the pot?
I need to pull out the box and see if they listed it, but it’s about 200 miles away.

In other news I have a cousin in-law who won the Bardstown 2021 World’s Top Whiskey Taster competition.

Part of the prize is you get to create and label your own blend. He has 12 bottles and didn’t give me one. I mean, he shouldn’t. But still.

He also has a podcast called All Things Whiskey. The blend is 52.8% in reference to the Mile High City. You never really know who is doing what, do you?

I didn't feel like going through 45 pages so I am just going to ask. Has anyone tried this Trader Joe's Single Malt?
It was recommended by an old HS friend but I haven't tried it yet.
