To me the issue at first was pretty cut and dried. I don’t have the right to deface or alter property I don’t own. But maybe it’s not so simple. An illustration of this exists on one of the main thoroughfares in Park City. A series of old Willow trees next to a creek have over the years collected an enormous number of hanging shoes. The below photo doesn’t fully capture how many there are.
This phenomenon has led to a polarization between residents who view those trees as art and historic since they’ve had shoes for decades now, and those who feel they are unsightly and should be removed from public owned property. A few years back the city began removing the shoes which led to a public outcry at which point they stopped.
Maybe analogistic are bra trees at ski resorts. How many frequent women skiers can say they haven’t made a contribution at one point or another? The women I ski with pretty much all have. One admitted to panties.
