I've had multiple back surgeries with permanent nerve damage on one side of my body about 10 years ago. Broke my Pelvis and 4 ribs last year. Still recovering.

How do people on here feel about regular massage therapy appts? I never really thought about it, but my wife had me try it out a couple of years ago. Never had a massage before that. I feel like it's been really helpful for me on my lower back, neck and messed up nerves damaged leg/hip.

I quit going for a while but went last week and feel a lot better. Or maybe it's all in my mind. Voodoo.

Anyone ele had good/bad results from regular orthopedic/medical or deep tissue massage?

I got amazing results from a massage therapist in, IIRC, Las Vegas.

I was on vacation and had strained my back. I could barely get in or out of a car. Walking was slow and difficult. I looked up massage therapists, hoping to salvage the trip. This guy was trained such that doctors could refer patients for their medical needs. I don't know what that type of training is.

I don't know what technique he was using, but it felt as if he was putting his thumb at my spine between ribs and following that line all the way over to my side ... like he was draining something out. The pressure was excruciating -- like pressing on bruised flesh. I focused on controlled breathing and imagery just to be able to lay there.

When he was finished, I got up, walked out, and had absolutely zero pain.

If I find that kind of massage therapist locally, I will be a regular on their table.

Absolutely. My wife has a therapist she's been going to for years. She has multiple issues that have caught up to her in her advanced years. I go monthly; right now I am trying out some different therapists because my regular one had to move on to a different line of work (wrist/arm issues from doing massages). There can be a marked difference in "touch", so try a few before you settle on one regularly. Right now I am going to an "Elements" massage center, which is a chain, but they seem to hire very good people. I have tendonitis in both arms at the shoulder area, the right being the worst, and my shoulder muscles tend to compensate so regular massasge helps keep them freed up

Massage and then the Chiro, best couple of hours. My RMT is a sport specialist. She and her associates are now the therapist for the Ottawa Senator's farm team. So it's hard to get in. My Chiro is the only person I trust with my neck.

Plus some insurance plans pay for these services.....

every 3 weeks. Keeps me going but like everything else, its really about the therapist, their training, specialties and experience. I would also suggest seeing a Manual Therapy PT. they work wonders. I go to Manual Therapy 1x per month.

note on Deep Tissue massage, this isn't always a good idea depending on the issues you are experiencing. Deep tissue can cause an inflammatory response. Not saying its bad for all issues. More of a Neuromuscular with Cupping fan. Plus, you get the cool octopus markings afterwards. :)

Yes. Superb.

Disclaimer: I was in a Covid pod with an MMT so basically got freebies 4xweek during recovery.
Ohhhh, heaven!

I get a massage every three weeks. Feels great and keeps my ankle and my funny toes (from after the ankle surgery) moving better.

I have been getting weekly sports massage for 4+ years because I golf/ski almost every day and my body is taking a beating. It helps with recovery. Cannot live without my massages. My husband, on the other hand, doesn’t think massages will help with anything. I wasn’t going to try to change his mind as long as he keeps paying for them!

I was a total unbeliever, but it seems to help me so far, or at least I think it is.

I got some whiplash from a ski crash. Massage therapist owed me a free one for helping her out since I was also a cashier at Sears. Anyway, she fixed my neck up in just a few minutes and I was back on the slopes that night with full flexibility.

Great massage therapists are unicorns. My best has a pre med BS, and is a partner in a spinal surgery practice. She is regularly in the OR, and has an extraordinary knowledge of how the body is put together.
