How
does this course differ from the women’s?

Could Paris possibly put in a good showing?

Kriechmayr
Kilde
Crawford (change from Caviezel)

does this course differ from the women’s?

It's a slightly different homologation with more vertical, starting higher up the track and covering a longer distance.

Women's start: 2160 m
Women's finish: 1560 m

Men's start: 2210 m
Men's finish: 1560 m

(Reference: FIS homologation 12852/10/18 - Olympia delle Tofane)

I'm a big fan of my compatriot Jack Crawford, but after that high speed crash at bottom of Wengen, he needs time to rebuild confidence. Since then, he's finished 28, 29, 38. He's stronger in DH than SG.

This course's vertical is in the higher range for SG, so heavies like Paris could do well (he was just off the podium, 2 years ago, in World Champs).

Pinturault
Kriechmayr

Great race from Odermatt. Interestingly tricky set... lots of DNFs... and created a small handful of turns that seemed to make all the difference.

In a finish interview he said his knee felt good. In the start he didn’t have the focus and flow that he likes to have, and during the run felt it was just gate to gate, an ok but not great run. When he saw the time he was surprised.

Pinturault had a great, clean line through that problematic long right footer that threw many others out.
Yeah that high speed turn defined the race, Bivio Tofanina, at the tree line. It came after the Schuss - where Kilde hit 128 kmh, and Odermatt 112 - and , and rapidly tightened. Surprisingly, Paris ran first and took it cleanly. There didn't seem to be effective on-course learning; so many made the exact error that had been repeated again and again before them. Light was perfect, snow was good. Held their tuck for too long after the Duca jump before setting up the arc.

Set by the Suisse. Great strategy; eliminate a third of the field, on a big g-force turn that didn't use Marco's left knee.

I have no idea about the intention of the set. They all had a chance to inspect. Odermatt himself said he underestimated that turn but pulled it out.

Paris ran first, he seemed to do ok with the course set. Also it took out Meillard, Rogentin, Hintermann, not sure if that was also part of the strategy.

Lucas Braathen is suffering from an appendix crisis and has undergone surgery at the hospital in Zell am See, Austria.

He will therefore miss the slalom in Chamonix this Saturday but will do everything he can to race during the World Championships

Be strong Lucas and we hope to see you soon again !!!

^ Wow. Hope he got better treatment than Jake Tapper’s (cnn) daughter. She was in the hospital for days, misdiagnosed, and they wouldn’t do whatever imaging needed. He had to call the hospital administer to over ride the doctors and get scanned. She had sepsis and at that point was close to dying.
