Hi All,

I have a 10 year old boy who's getting better at moguls. He has been skiing with just a pair of twin tip Vokyls (cheaps ones you buy at the end of the season for $120 with binding). He spends 95% of his time in the park doing slopestyle. I see that purpose built mogul skis like ID 1 are crazy money for a kid that will outgrow them in a season. I was reading about some GS skis that can be used in the moguls and get similar results (for a 10 year old) -- however I don't know anything about GS skis either or if this is infact the case. Looking for some advice on what you'd get your 10 year old or if the ski at this age isn't even going to make a difference....

Thanks,

Dico

A short GS ski (about forehead height) with the plate removed, binding mounted directly to the ski.

Take a look at K2 244 for a cost effective specialist mogul ski. I picked up a new pair for $275 last summer for my son ahead of his first comp mogul season and they’ve worked out fine.

Second on the 244’s. Yes , ID ones are the hot ski but the 244’s are a time tested, durable ski. Zipline has a Jr. mogul ski but I believe they are sold out. Elan makes a mogul ski , the Bloodline, in 2 jr.. sizes , 125 and 141 cm but they are hard to find in North America. As Phil said, a GS ski will work as long as it isn’t too stiff in the shovel.
Does it matter? Length and flex are the most important factors followed by sidecut by which less is more in competitive bump skiing/training. The boots are likely more important, a nice progressive flex so they dont get thrown around as the speed increases. The coaches are your best resource for dialing things in.
