Ugh! But it's dry heat, right?
Not in August, probably around 40% humidity that day, which certainly isn't tropical, but tolerable if you are prepared. It's rattler heaven down there too.:geek:

Learn something every day. I hope to visit there sometime in the not too distant future.

With a late start, the mileage was low, but fun!

Trails in Summit can be rough and rocky. This one eventually was, but for the first few miles it was sweet, tight single track.

Awful day. Low 70s, no smoke, and not a cloud in the sky!

Mt. Rose proper is the tall one in the back ground. Mt. Rose ski area is towards the left on Slide Mt.

I'm not sure what color that is above the hill. I seem to vaguely remember it...

^^^ @Andy Mink SENDING IT!!!

Here's a funny little story: I took this pic accidentally.

IMG_0269.JPG

It looks like my young friend is pointing at my saddle, WHICH BROKE TWO MINUTES LATER!

He says he was hexing it.....

This, of course, occurred within a few feet of the outermost point of our 3 hour slugfest.

My legs really ache after riding all the way back standing 100% of the time.

I might not be "tip top" tomorrow. :(

ms nay had work in Eagle yesterday so I went with her. I really love these trails, perfect long western slope erosion gulch fall line drops off a plateau with backcountry drop ins above that. Spots of brake slotted chalk chutes full of moon dust add to the fun.

Worlds Best is part of the enduro race we’ve done twice here in 2019/20 - I’m so much faster now. You could easily bag 5K vert just staying front side. I think this is my favorite kind of riding - it’s low obstacle tech but screaming fast. @Doug Briggs will recognize the last pic. The peak shot is looking back towards the Vail backcountry, the first is where I-70 is heading East back towards Vail. Such a gorgeous day.

That’s what I’m afraid of, I don’t like getting passed ogwink
Here is the course map, figure they’ll be doing pre-ride mañana. Bigger bike ride since they canceled the swim.
Run, bike, run.

Ugh, I was thinking Last Chance would be a good option. Might encounter runners galore (who will NOT be happy to see us.)

I especially don’t like being passed by runners!
:bike:

We will figure it out. Not too worried about the runners. When I had one of the pros staying with me a few years ago she only wanted to check out the mountain bike route don’t bother with a training run. Same with my niece when she did Xterra.

Things started out this morning looking like a fine day for a ride:

IMG_0275.JPG

So I took my brand new race bike -- happy belated birthday to me -- on its first real ride, and found some great colors!

IMG_0278.JPG

And then passed by a great rock feature!

IMG_0280.JPG

4,600 feet of climbing. Nap time!

Section 16 today with my son who decided to call in at work as “not coming”. The rain this summer has turned this downhill into a full face helmet affair. He forgot his half shell and only had his full face and goggles and that was spot on, especially since he ate shit in an erosion rut and ended up in the trees. The lower erosion control railroad ties are all 2’ erosion chute drops now. I really like the Fox X2 in the air, but a coil is a better choice in here to stay planted.

The drop once out of the madness is a new trail called Lion Trail and that’s a couple miles of whip fast flow with side features to pop off if you want. Just good stuff.

My pleasure. If you haven't been to Horse Gulch.... loop the Meadow and Stacy's. Retrace a bit if that loop and head to Telegraph. Up Telegraph. Drop into Big Canyon / Cowboy. Ride back dow to the valley. Puck up the @nimas River Trail back to town. I live at the top of Horse Gulch and that is a go-to ride.

If you are around this weekend, big fundraising rides for Fort Lewis College cycling team. Gravel, road and mtn. Big party at the campus afterwards. Deadline to sign up is tonight.

Let me know how I can help. Hit me up uf you want to meet for lunch. Enjoy.

First ride west of New York State for me. Ever.

We stopped a LOT for pictures and breathing.

Have to leave Saturday morning, unfortunately.
