One of my favorite songs while driving through the mountains on my way to ski...

On the flats heading up to the mountains: Tool
In the mountains: almost anything Baroque - Handel, Bach, Manfredini, Albinoni ( the Italians are hard to beat)
Heading home: Larkin Poe, Dorothy, with just a dash of Philip Sayce.

Absolutely nothing, ever, while skiing.

Oooh @SBrown reminded me of a tune to run to that reminds me not just of skiing but specifically skiing Mary Jane.

Can't You See by the Marshall Tucker Band. I don't think they were thinking of a mountain as "that woman" but the lyrics fit.
They sing about taking a train to climb and then jump off a mountain, riding the train till it run out of tracks, and the the Hole in the Wall where they're gonna die. (Hole in the Wall is a steep chute at MJ that made me ponder death the few times I've skied it) So when I hear the refrain, I picture her as Mary Jane.

… I'm gonna take a freight train
Down at the station, Lord
I don't care where it goes
Gonna climb a mountain
The highest mountain
I'll jump off, nobody gonna know
… Can't you see, whoa, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me
… I'm gonna find me
A hole in the wall
I'm gonna crawl inside and die
'Cause my lady, now
A mean ol' woman, Lord
Never told me goodbye
… Can't you see, ohh, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
… I'm gonna buy a ticket, now
As far as I can
Ain't a-never comin' back
Ride me a southbound
All the way to Georgia, now
Till the train, it run out of track
… Can't you see, ohh, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me
Oh, Lord
… Can't you see, whoa, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, whoa, can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me
… Can't you see (oh, she's such a crazy lady), can't you see
What that woman (what that woman) she been doin' to me
Can't you see (Lord, I can't stand), can't you see
What that woman (ohh), she been doin' to me
Can't you see (I'm gonna take a freight train)
Can't you see (down at the station, Lord)
What that woman, she been doin' to me (ain't never comin' back) oh oh
Can't you see (gonna ride me a southbound, now)
Can't you see (all the way to Georgia, Lord)
What that woman, she been doin' to me (till the train run out of track), oh

Hardly ever any music when I'm actually skiing.

But Led Zeppelin's version of "When the Levee Breaks" is sometimes in my head when I am visualizing a mogul run, especially drummer John Bonhams's opening layer.

If only I could consistently slay a bump run with Bonham's drive...

By coincidence I guess, Robert Plant opened a fantastic concert in Vail 3 summers ago with this number!

Fleetwood Mac and Rumors.
Skied a lot in the mid seventies and the old man had that album on when ever we were on 395.

I play that one in the car every so often on my way to the mountain.
Great tune when you live in a mountain town for some reason. Awesome song!

Interesting that the Grateful Dead are mentioned several times.
I listen to the Dead, but skiing is the last thing that comes to mind for me when listening to their music.
Maybe more appropriate for the all-mountain fat-ski crowd? I kid.
I personally can't really listen to the Dead, hop on a pair of race GS skis and barrel down the mountain.
Both things seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum...

I think "Surfing With the Alien" (or any Satch song for that matter) immediately puts me
in ski blast-off and carving mode... :yahoo::roflmao:

Am aware there is some music produced by local mountain bands about skiing and have heard some while in resort town clubs though none I bothered to remember or later play. I have dozens of vinyl record albums collecting dust. Years ago used the audacity app to copy about 220 Classic Rock songs from either the vinyl records, FM radio, or youtube into mp3 files. Note have never directly copied digital copies that I consider unethical, just the lower fidelity audio that has always been legal for private use. None of my songs makes me think about skiing.

Have always occasionally listened to music while skiing and posted about such on older threads. Have customized speakers into my helmet. More often will listen riding chairlifts solo and then turn music off while skiing down.

I have given this a lot of thought and effort. (You could say that skiing makes me think of music.)
Here is a video my creative friend Bret Hamilton did of the 12-part Snowpeggio Suite I composed. Each of the 12 parts is based on a different snow condition.

1. Bulletproof Boilerplate
2. Continental Champagne Powder
3. Surf Sluff
4. Chalky Wind Buff
5. Virgin Corduroy
6. Dust on Crust
7. Fluff on Scruff
8. Pow on Ow
9. Whipped Cream Cheese on a Toasted Bagel
10. Creamed Corn Goodness
11. Mega Manked Potatoes
12. Shark Fin Sastrugi

For me it's jam-grass. String Cheese Incident and Leftover Salmon. Both Colorado bands.

I wrote a bluegrassy guitar piece after returning from a trip to Steamboat in 2019. I was holding in my mind and trying to capture the feel of rollocking through the Boat's really fun bumps and it's mellow powdered trees.
The Cheese got their start playing at ski resorts for lift tickets. They did a tour of Tahoe / California ski resorts in the late 90s.
