The forerunner 45 is on sale for <$200 right now. That's what Ariel wanted first, so....I'll take a look at everything tonight. Smaller would be better, but. Thanks for the help.
The 245 you mentioned in your OP has paddling metrics, but the 45 doesn't, unfortunately:

Also, you might ask your coach if accurate heart rate is important. You'll want a chest strap if so, as the wrist-based HR won't be much good paddling.

Small is relative. This is my 42mm watch on my wrist.

Definitely relative.

Here’s a 42mm on my tiny wrist (Garmin 6S…very comparable to the 5S, same diameter, but I believe it’s screen is bigger).

For a reference point, I have a 5.75” wrist (that’s approx. 14.5 cm in Canadian ;).

Hmmm....I just know I'm going to over think this thing. Next weekend I hope to be on the water. Need to get a dock in yet.

I'm still bilingual with measurements!! 915mm is 36" for a door!
