The motorcycle Cannonball run started today in Sault Ste. Marie, MI and will end at S. Padre Island, TX in 17 days.
The course covers almost 4000 miles of two lane blacktop.
The rules allow any bike made before 1929...that's right, 1929.
I saw the bikes go by for three hours down M-119, our famous Tunnel of Trees along Lake Michigan.
This isn't some putt along event, most of the bikes will run 70 and some will top out over 100.
The bikes may look stock but are modified mostly by using modern materials for highly stressed parts like valve springs and con rods.
These bikes don't have much for suspension.
Imagine riding a hardtail for 4000 miles for 17 consecutive days.
Right manly.
Motorcycle Cannonball
One of my favorite bikes is the 2014 winner, an Excelsior 7sc Big X
I love the old white rubber tires.
A good restored one is worth over $100k.
Note that it has pedals so it belongs in this forum...
