An interesting and very recent article making it's way around the ski industry re: Natl Ski Patrol.

Here is an open letter around this issue from Natl Ski Area Assoc CEO, Kelly Pawlak. The efforts and concern around these spaces are truly appreciated and serve as a testament to how our society as a whole, continues to evolve in this arena. The conversations are challenging but the resolve is undeterred in it's progress.

I'm not sure on the connection between the firing and the column? Is the insinuation that she was fired for calling out the racist comment in the column behind the scenes?

According to the NSP board, there is no connection between the firing and the column, or that she was fired at all. They go on to say that they cannot disclose why she has left the NSP due to "privacy". Lots of lawyers on the NSP board, including the guy that allegedly made the statement.

Here is the NSP website. Their home webpage exhibits a very respectable DEI effort.

and here is a link to the commentary by Meegan Moszynski & Board Chair Brian Rull:

Lastly, an apology from Brian Rull for his choice of words is included w/in the NSP's Commitment to Inclusion Statement:

I think we are all learning on this new playing field.:beercheer:

The thing about respect and justice in the ski world, as in the rest of the world, is all about the golden rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. But it's so much more complicated than a simple platitude because even the well intentioned can have imperfect execution, and no doubt there are systemic biases that can't be overcome in a day.

I was an employee of the Dept of Navy for almost three decades and saw a great culture change over that time with respect to sexism and harassment. But it took time and a lot of sensitivity training.

^^^ Very true. In support of what you have stated..... Unless we are willing to allow room for change to evolve, we will be trapped w/in this cycle of repeated and interpretive mistakes. All parties have to move forward w/ an eye towards more open paradigms. That takes time and energy and an understanding that mistakes will be made along the journey.
