Almost 80 and energy level has really dropped this year. Trying to exercise etc. but not much enthusiasm or results like years past. Have been thinking of testostrone additives/bosters but really don't believe any of the advertising. Does anyone here have actual results on the bosters or any other recommendations.

My testostrone level is probably zero.

Your first step is to find a doc who specializes in optimization, not treating sickness, and getting a very complete blood panel. A nutritional panel through a service like InsideTracker would give you much the same info, but be far more actionable. Best to you.

Testosterone test would be straight forward.

Lots of heart issues that can pop up. I recently had surgery and I was visited in the hospital that evening by cardiologists with medical concerns involving my heart. I can barely remember the discussion since I was still out of it. Sounds like a procedure will be needed. Lower chambers is all I really got.

Mild Hatha Yoga... Take a class and let the instructor know your limitations and goals. :hail: I do yoga every morning before I ski. I used to do it in the lodge to unwind from the drive but since Covid I have to do it at home.... and totally agree w/ @Lorenzzo... Health check if you don't already have that w/ an MD... but you may also look into an ND (Naturopath) as an adjunct as they may offer additional tx modalities to supplement your MD treatment profile.

My suggestion would be to get a health screening to see if there’s anything underlying.

Be very cautious. Most of us old guys have prostate cancer, but usually something else will kill us first, except.... Adding testosterone to prostate cancer is like putting gasoline on a dumpster fire. Discuss it with a urologist, not a doc making money running a so-called men's health clinic.

Do get a complete health screening. Do yoga and weight training as best you're able, at least twice a week each. Walk, walk, walk, and the faster the better. Swimming is great, including water aerobics. In any case, get moving. Do whatever exercise seems best with you, and DO IT!

I'm 68 and this year I was crying the blues to anyone who would listen that I just wasn't as fit as last year. I thought briefly about T therapy but quickly ruled it out due to the cancer issues. I changed up my fitness training to accommodate less volume and a more structured approach, I also started doing more weight training which for me, makes me feel a bit more manly! Strangely enough I just rowed my best 5k ever today so something worked for me.

My advice to you (and to myself) is when you start feeling like an old man, take a look at the other 98% of the 80 year olds who can't get up off the couch to fetch the newspaper and just do what you can do and enjoy it.

Hi Pete - I'm only 68 (and female) but medical issues have suddenly appeared. My "heartburn" that I was told created the shortness of breath I've had for 10 years got worse this year and I've seen a series of doctors. Turns out the shortness of breath really is shortness of breath (not heartburn or GERD), and some lung issues are still being pursued. Even so, the pulmonologist and gastroenterologist still want my heart evaluated.

My primary care doc insisted I see all these specialists, and I'm sure glad she did. Things wear out, and when we get a bit wrinkled and creaky, it's good to find a doc who is thorough and investigates things.

+1 to also looking at lung pulmonary function as a factor. Oxygen is the fuel that powers everything. If you're feeling washed out and unenergetic, and tire quickly when you try to exercise you might not be getting enough O2.
