Tenderfoot Trail, Dillon, CO. There was sun, virga, thunder and sprinkles. And a grand ride.

This past Sunday I climbed Broads Fork Twin Peaks, also known as Salt Lake Twin Peaks. The easternmost of the twins is the highest elevation point in Salt Lake County (11,330') and its counterpart is 2' shorter. Here's a photo taken of the peaks in May from the summit of Mt. Olympus and another taken in July from Red Pine Lake.

Photo is of the northern half of the Salt Lake Valley and the rapidly shrinking Great Salt Lake from West Twin. Antelope Island (and probably Stansbury Island) are technically not islands at the moment.

It’s larch season! Every year, we all lose our collective minds during the 7-14 day window when the larch trees turn yellow but haven’t lost their needles yet. Massive numbers of larches are in the appropriately named Larch Valley, in the Valley of the 10 Peaks near Moraine Lake. Thing 2 and I managed to get bus reservations last minute (Parks Canada ruthlessly manages access now so it isn’t a parking and car catastrophe) so did the hike today. Perfect weather, peak larch colour. Photos actually don’t do it justice.

More photos taken from the summits of Broads Fork Twin Peaks last Sunday. Looking east at Hidden Peak at Snowbird (slightly left of center), location of the upper tram station. Taken from East Twin.

Looking due south from East Twin. The distant mountains in the middle of the photo include Mt. Nebo, the highest peak in the Wasatch Mountain Range. It is located two counties away from Salt Lake County. The slightly distant mountains on the left side of the photo include Mt. Timpanogos, the second highest mountain in the Wasatch. It is located in the county bordering the south end of Salt Lake County.

Devils Castle at Alta can be seen in the middle of this photo taken from East Twin.

Photo taken of West Twin from East Twin on my way back to my vehicle parked at the s-curves in BCC. Round trip distance for the hike/climb was 12+ miles with an approximate 5,300' ascent and descent. Quite a bit of the distance is a mountaineering scramble and some of the rest involves a rough route, as opposed to a maintained hiking trail.

@AKMINK and I joined some friends for a ride today. We first went to Meadow Lake then on to White Rock Lake, both off 89 near Truckee. Perfect weather, beautiful scenery.

A look down at Fordyce Lake. We couldn't figure how to get there.

First stop at Meadow lake. Water is down quite a bit from just a few weeks ago according to our friends.

Can’t resist a few more larches… these were taken with my DSLR instead of my phone. After looking at them I have no regrets about hauling the big camera up the trail!
