@SkiEssentials , Jeff when you said you were in alpine boots, do you mean actual alpine boots without walk mode?

And as a fellow tal guy, please get Marcus a longer ice axe!

Haha, yeah... Nordica Pro Machine 130s! I was supposed to be testing some Fischer touring boots, but they didn't arrive in time. I tried on a pair of random boots the night before that was a size too small ultimately decided the solo boot pack would be better than 4-5 hours in boots that were too small. The first 2 hours was rough with everyone else skinning, but then we switched to crampons and it was fine from there.

Marcus definitely needs a longer axe!

That was my skintrack for today :) They spread last years snow in Planica on tracks, where Nordic World Championships will start in 456days and made about 3km loop, which is way better then 2.5km loop I was skiing on biathlon WC tracks in Pokljuka yesterday. Of course it's anything but great, but for 20th of November it's pretty cool that I can ski around my home, even if at +8c :)

Now my ski touring season started too :D We got some 80cm snow (on zero base) in last 3 days, and with weather forecast promising bluebird day, even though at -10c and pretty bad wind up in mountains, there were two options... either seat in office and do some work, or go out and do some skiing  While first one is awesome option (if anyone believes that), I still thought second one will be slightly better... and it was

Top of mountains had pretty strong wind, as those were no clouds, but snow being shifted around by wind. So as 80cm of new snow fallen on relatively warm ground, wouldn't be bad enough for avalanches, there's going to be tons of wind drifted snow too. So I was playing safe and stay low and on sides with no much wind effect (I saw for first time in my life wind influenced snow on some of "always safe" places).

Ready for first turn of season on touring skis :D

One of nicest views far around for me. Down in valley is my home town, and on the other side of valley mountains of my favorite playground, but as everyone and their dogs were there in last 2 days, and there's still not enough snow, nor conditions for some steep stuff there, I picked this side for today.

XC access from our back yard. First day of our season in NEK Vermont after the recent snow. Nice storm that was actually bigger than any of the storms we experienced all of last year. Then après XC ski Strongly recommend Cabot Clothbound cheese (I've found in Whole Foods outside VT) . You could not buy it here in Vermont for many years until Jasper Hill opened up their cheese cave down the road. Living near Jasper Hill and Hill Farmstead Brewery, somebody pinch me! The wine is a 2014 Navarro Riesling. For an excellent wine try a Navarro Pinot Noir... drink around 4 - 5 yrs after the date. 2017's are perfect right now.... IMHO.... Enjoy! :beercheer:
