Boy, those Dakar seats look a wee bit aggressive. Thanks for the firsthand pics!
Might be tough to downsize in the luggage space department from Cayenne to Macan?
Question: Did Porsche ever address the rear seat folding challenge in the Cayenne? Ages ago, after a test drive, I was ready to write an order. Decided to fold down the rear seat, and walked away.
At that time, you had to "tumble" the lower cushion forward, the fold down the backrest, resulting in an inability to move the driver's seat back far enough for my 6'2" frame.
The disappointed salesman, who was a good friend of a good friend, noted that he had never had a customer fold down the rear seat during a test drive. Never.
I remember those seats. The current 9YO series has conventional SUV folding ones.
My Cayenne hybrid has smaller cargo space than the other iterations due to space taken up by electric components/battery. The cargo difference isn’t significant for me. If I did need more space I’d probably get a roof box as I had on an Audi Q5 which is about the same size as the current Macan.
The motivator would be to have a winter car that drives like a true sports car. The Cayenne Hybrid is over 5,000 pounds although it drives, tracks and handles amazingly well. In some ways it handles better than the lighter models, Porsche really put effort into the design. But when my 992 goes into the garage for winter I’d still like to have something similarly nimble.
@cantunamunch’s question and the discussion about styling is appropriate as the Dakar is really a collector’s or showroom car. When they do see the light of day it would probably be on paved roads. Maybe it’s just me as I won’t even take my 992 out on snowy gravelly roads yet it handles extremely well in frozen conditions. Many owners do.
The 992.2 is likely going to offer hybrid versions. The current 0-60 on ICE models is already per testing under 3.0 for all but the base. You can’t really use that on streets. Adding a battery increases weight but probably not real world performance. We’re looking at sub 2.0 0-60. As it is the benefits of going to a model over an S or GTS is mostly the badge which for many of us isn’t motivating.
The more you think about the current environment, the more sense a hybrid makes. If they had a Macan Hybrid I’d be all over it but they’re skipping that to go all electric.
